Lodden Thinks, Calls

Level 5 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

After a bit of a rough start, Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden is healthy again.

A short stacked Daniel Dvoress shipped it all in under the gun for some 20,000 and after folds all around, Lodden made the call from the big blind with {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.

Dvoress held the dominated {j-Spades}{10-Spades} and hit the rail after an {8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades} run out.

Natan Chauskin Wins €1,100 IPT7 Malta2 Main Event for €149,560

While the PokerNews Live Reporting Team has been busying live reporting the High Rollers and Main Event from the European Poker Tour Malta, another event – the €1,100 IPT7 Malta2 Main Event – wrapped up at the Portomaso Casino.

That tournament attracted 947 participants from 57 countries, which created a prize pool of €918,590 that was distributed to the top 135 players. Among those to cash were Yann Dion (14th - €8,440), Hyunwoo Kang (32nd - €3,550), Gaelle Baumann (34th - €3,550), Matthias De Meulder (77th - €2,210), Luca Pagano (87th - €2,210), Marcin Wydrowski (123rd - €1,810), and Andrea Dato (134th - €1,810).

In the end, it was Natan Chauskin who finished as the last man standing to capture a €149,560 first-place prize, the result of a heads-up deal with EPT regular Govert Metaal, who had actually began the final table as the short stack.

The 27-year-old began the final table as chip leader and rode it all the way to heads-up play. When the deal was struck with Metaal, who was named the Netherland's 2013 Player of the Year, the two agreed to leave €20,000 on the table for the eventual champ, which ended up going to Chauskin along with a shiny new trophy.

"It's not the amount of money that changes my life," Chauskin said after the win. "Plus, I don't play just for the money, I play to become a sportstar, because poker is a sport, where the competition is the most important thing. I will play the EPT Main Event tomorrow and win it too."

According to PokerStars, Chauskin started the pokerbrothers.by coaching website with his friends Mikolai Vaskaboinikau and Jenya Gavrilovich just three months ago. In addition to Chauskin's win, Gavrilovich won the €2,000 NL tournament at EPT Barcelona for €75,300.

Adrian Mateos opened to 5,000 and Brian Roberts as well as Jonathan Roy called. In the small blind, Alexander Petersen three-bet to 18,000 and Roberts as well as Roy came along to see the flop {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Petersen continued for 15,000 and Roberts called before Roy moved all in for what looked like 70,000. Petersen folded and Roberts tanked for several minutes before committing his last chips.

Roberts: {A-Spades}{10-Spades}
Roy: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}

The {A-Diamonds} turn and {K-Clubs} river completed the board and Roberts headed to the rail.

Until the river of a {7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{A-Spades} board, a massive pot of almost 70,000 chips was created and Connor Drinan checked over to his table neighbor Sam Greenwood. The latter bet 18,000 and Drinan reluctantly called on his second bullet before getting shown the {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Drinan scooped the pot with {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} and is back in action.

Badziakouski Spells Double

Level 5 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Justin Bonomo opened from the hijack with a raise to 4,500. Martin Finger responded from the cutoff with a three-bet, making it 11,500.

It folded to Mikita Badziakouski in the big blind and he four-bet shoved for some 48,200 more. Bonomo made a quick fold, but Finger called after getting a count.

Finger: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Badziakouski: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The trailing Finger took the lead on the {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop, but Badziakouski locked it up with the {k-Hearts} turn. The {q-Spades} river was moot and Badziakouski doubled up, leaving Finger cut down to size.

Approaching 100 Entries Soon

Level 5 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

With more and more players joining the rail and taking advantage of the late registration until the end of level seven, it seems very likely that more than 100 entries will be shown on the screens soon. Right now it shows 87 and the latest unique entries to the field were Keven "Stammdogg" Stammen and Davidi Kitai. Christopher Frank and Jason Wheeler also purchased a reentry as well and are both back in action.

Just before the break, Christopher Frank shipped his stack over to EPT10 Grand Final champion Antonio Buonanno and Jason Wheeler also joined the rail as well. Julian Stuer opened to 3,800 from the button and Wheeler three-bet to 10,500 in the big blind. Stuer four-bet to 23,000 and Wheeler moved all in for around 130,000 with Stuer making the call.

Stuer: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Wheeler: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {6-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Wheeler was sent to the rail. "I could have just called there," he said in a quick chat and then confirmed that he will be reentering.
