Vousden Talks Lopes Out of a Call
Bruno Lopes opened from the hijack and Samuel Vousden called from the big blind. Both players checked the flop and the on the turn. The hit the river and Vousden bet out 65,000. Lopes went into the tank.
"Frenchies never fold" Vousden said. "You have ace-high?"
"Better" Lopes replied.
"Surely you can't fold. Call! What do you have?" Vousden said.
"What do you have?" Lopes replied.
"A pair..." Vousden answered, followed by a long silence and then "Maybe."
"Show if I fold?" Lopes asked.
"I can show you one" Vousden said.
"I showed you 2 with the flush" Lopes said.
"You get too much info if I tell you I'll show 2. Maybe I'll show 2. What pair do you have?" Vousden asked again. "You can't fold a pair. A pair is good. It's hard to make a pair!"
Lopes did fold in the end and Vousden did show his hand: ! "What pair did you have?" Vousden asked.
"Under the board" Lopes answered, despite the fact that the river was a deuce.
