Day 2 of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Cyprus Main Event at Merit Royal Diamond Hotel and Spa has concluded after ten levels of play, with 275 players advancing out of 819 entrants. Currently, the prize pool sits at a whopping $6,251,650 with 408 runners coming back to play on Day 2. However, registration remains open and the players who were not able to enter on one of the Day 1 flights will be able to register up until the start of Day 2.

After the play concluded and the chips went into the bags, David Kaufmann bagged the chip lead with an impressive 299,000 stack. Close behind him were Andrei Vavilonskii (274,500) and Kayhan Mokri (258,000) who completed the top three and will look to continue the success when Day 2 resumes tomorrow at 12:00 EET.

Kaufmann finished 160th in the $2,200 Eureka High Roller yesterday and decided to attempt a trade-up to a big score today in the main event. He may not have the Hendon Mob of some of his counterparts in the top ten, but he will work to change that as the first EPT played on the island of Cyprus will have a massive first-place prize when the final numbers are out at the beginning of the day tomorrow.

PokerStars ambassadors Alejandro Lococo (191,000) and Jen Shahade (76,500) kept themselves in the mix and found a bag as well. Alex Kulev (190,500) cashed the Super High Roller last night and was able to accumulate a big stack today in the main after a nasty hand where he got the chips in on the flop and rivered a straight.

Unfortunately, some players had a rough day at the EPT main event. Former champion Ian Hamilton got knocked out before the end of the day. Popular streamer and PokerStars ambassador Ben "Spraggy" Spragg couldn't avoid hitting the rail early on after running into aces however his wife Marle Spragg did find a bag and will hope to bring the trophy home. Leon Sturm, who also cashed in the Super High Roller just last night, also hit the rail early.

The first EPT Cyprus has already been a huge success with the venue and staff being the perfect jumping-off point for such a huge event. Day 2 will begin the feature table live stream that will start a half hour after play resumes at about 12:30 EET. Make sure to not miss any of the action as the players look to make a move into a dominating position on the leaderboard.

Dont miss any of the off-stream action by staying tuned into PokerNews all day!

Jessica Teusl moved all in for 8,100 from early position, and Kassem Hammoud committed his last 5,600. Philip Joyce, with a big stack, called from the big blind to both players at risk.

Kassem Hammoud: A?Q?

Malinov Gets Massive Double

Level 10 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Atanas Malinov
Atanas Malinov

Roberto Romanello opened under the gun to 3,000 before the action folded all the way to Atanas Malinov in the big blind who put in a large three-bet to 15,000. Action was back on Romanello who called and they were off to a flop heads up.

The 8?10?6? flop landed and surprisingly the action checked through to a 3? turn. Malinov put his foot back on the gas and led out for almost pot to 15,000.

Romanello sat in the tank for only a moment before turning to the dealer and announcing he was all in. Malinov snap called.

Roberto Romanello: Q?10?
Atanas Malinov: A?A?

Malinov was ahead with the rockets but Romanello had plenty of outs with the pair plus flush draw. Unfortunately, the right cards would not come and Romanello was sent to the rail after the dealer put the K? on the river.

Malinov got a massive double on the last level of the day.

Raoul Refos: A?A?
Michel Atallah: 7?5?

Atallah's mistimed jam was perfect for Refos who collected the pot after the 7? turn and 9? river.

Teun Mulder

Teun Mulder raised from under the gun and picked up three callers, including Adil Oubaaous in the small blind.

The flop came J?3?2?. Action checked to Mulder, who bet 2,700. Only Oubaaous made the call. The turn was the A?. Oubaaous led for 5,000 and Mulder called.

The river was the J?. Oubaaous checked and Mulder moved all in for around 25,000.

Oubaaous took a moment and then made the call. He showed Ax10x for a pair of aces and Mulder showed 3?3? for a set of threes. He'd extracted maximum value over three streets of action.

Juan Pardo sat down and said hello to the table. He'd just entered the tournament for his first bullet.

Pardo open raised and was met with a three-bet from Andrey Kotelnikov, who made it 6,300 to go. Action folded back around to Pardo, who shoved all in for his starting stack of 30,000. Kotelnikov called with the bigger stack and players revealed their hands.

Juan Pardo: A?Q?
Andrey Kotelnikov: J?J?

Neutral players at the table chuckled as they realized that Pardo was already flipping for his tournament life.

Straight Flush Draw for Kulev

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Alex Kulev
Alex Kulev

Oleksii Kovalchuk opened the cutoff to 2,200 before action was on Alex Kulev on the button who flat called. It was then on Damir Gabdullin in the small blind who took a moment and then three-bet to 11,000.

Kovalchuk got out of the way but Kulev stuck around to see three.

The K?3?4? flop landed and Gabdullin continued for 6,800. Action was then on Kulev who sat in the tank for a moment and then raised to 17,000. Gabdullin only took a second and then moved all in having Kulev covered. Kulev snap-called for his tournament life.

Alex Kulev: A?5?
Damir Gabdullin: K?Q?

Kulev was swimming in equity with his straight flush draw but Gabdullin was currently in the lead as they went to the 6? turn. Kulev was now open-ended with a flush draw and an over. The 2? river would bring one of the many outs he needed in the form of a straight.

Kulev scooped the pot and left Gabdullin with about half of what he was working with prior to the hand.
