The third day of the EPT Monte Carlo 5,300 Main Event as part of 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) presented by Monte-Carlo Casino? wrapped up after five 90-minute levels of play and saw the field of 126 that started the day dwindle down to 38 hopefuls. Leading the way by a significant margin is the United Kingdom's Kenan Taylor with a stack of 3,650,000, followed not too closely by Arunas Sapitavicius of Lithuania (2,220,000) and Russia's Artur Martirosian (1,445,000).

Not only is Taylor after his first major live title, he's after his first live cash period. The 21-year-old told PokerNews he is primarily a $10/$20 online player and is mainly looking for a big live score to add to his online bankroll.

Despite his lack of live experience, the young Brit had no trouble going to bat against seasoned veterans like Mike Watson, who tangled with Taylor in more than a few big pots as they were seated together throughout the day. Watson managed to bag a stack of 1,280,000, while others who made it to Day 4 include Leonard Maue (1,085,000), Ori Hasson (1,065,000), Jason Wheeler (1,000,000), Arnaud Enselme (810,000) and PSPC champions Ramon Colillas (810,000) and Aliaksandr Shylko (500,000).

Day 3 Action

There was no shortage of big names and notable players to start the day, and chief among them was five-time World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen. Carlsen, who spoke with PokerNews in an interview during a break on Day 2, entered the day with 127,000 chips and managed to run up a stack from there.

The Norwegian chess prodigy's deep run came to an end when he check-jammed with pocket fours and was called by the pocket tens of Mark Teltscher, who shook Carlsen's hand and gracefully thanked him for "growing the game." The 63rd-place finish earned Carlsen 15,000 as he adapts to life as a former chess champion.

Another big name to fall was Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel, who managed to grow his stack throughout the day before falling in 49th place for 17,250, shortly after the elimination of EPT London final tablist Harry Lodge (50th - 17,250).

Others to fall late in the day included PokerStars Team Pro Parker Talbot (42nd - 17,250), bracelet winner Orpen Kisacikoglu (40th - 17,250) and 2021 PokerStars Sunday Millions champion Vanessa Kade, who ran ace-queen into Big Slick after a "sneaky" early-position limp from Martin Guerrero.

Action will pick back up on May 4 with Level 21 and blinds of 10,000/15,000/15,000. There will still be two days left in the tournament on the quest to name the next EPT champion.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team will be back tomorrow as the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event draws closer to an end.

Orpen Kisacikoglu: 4?4?
Kenan Taylor: 9?9?

The action folded to Kenan Taylor in the cutoff who opened for 24,000 and only Mike Watson made the call in the big blind.

The flop fanned out J?9?4? and both players checked their options to the Q? turn. Watson checked again and Taylor bet out 36,000. Watson took a moment before tossing in chips for the call and the pair saw the 5? river.

Watson checked a third time and Taylor assembled a large sizing of 180,000. Watson went in the tank, but after close to 30 seconds, let his hand go and the pot was sent to the chip leader.

Beuter Doubles Up After Tough River Call

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Patrick Beuter
Patrick Beuter

Patrick Beuter opened for 25,000 from early position and got only one call, from big blind Markkos Ladev.

On the flop of Q?9?K?, both players checked to see the 2? on the turn. Ladev led out for 60,000 and Beuter called.

When the 6? completed the board, Ladev took a few moments, then announced he was all in (1,097,000) having Beuter well covered. Beuter burned two time chips, giving it a lot of thought, before tossing in a single chip to call off his last 183,000.

Patrick Beuter: Q?J?
Markkos Ladev: A?4?

"I've got an Ace," said Ladev softly as he rolled over his cards for ace high. Beuter's middle pair of queens were good to claim the pot and double up.

Taylor Check-Raises Watson with Air and Gets There

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Kenan Taylor

Kenan Taylor, the current chip leader, limped in from under the gun. Mike Watson and David Vinayagamoorthy also limped in from the cutoff and button. Jason Wheeler was in the big blind and checked his option.

Action checked to Watson on the 10?4?2? flop, and he bet 17,000, which got rid of Vinayagamoorthy and Wheeler. However, Taylor had other ideas and made it 62,000 and Watson called.

The 6? turn checked through to the K? river, With the pot at 184,000, Taylor fired big, making it 300,000 to go, which seemed to stun the Canadian veteran. Watson called and Taylor tabled his K?6?, which was good for two pair, kings and sixes. Watson mucked his hand and Taylor's ascent continued.

Lars Kamphues open-jammed a stack of 109,000 from under the gun and Orpen Kisacikoglu called in the big blind with a bigger stack after getting a count.

Lars Kamphues: 6?6?
Orpen Kisacikoglu: K?Q?

Kisacikoglu took a big lead on the 5?K?J? flop and the K? on the turn only improved his hand. The K? on the river improved him to quads to add insult to injury as Kamphues hit the rail.

Vicente Delgado: K?10?
Martin Guerrero: 8?8?

The flop landed 9?J?9? to give Patacconi the lead with a pair of jacks and the runout of 6?J? improved him to a full house as Guerrero's two pair was counterfeited to earn Delgado a big side pot.

Nicola Grieco: 10?10?
