Alt Scores Massive Double Through Moran

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Dinesh Alt opened to 5,000 on the button and was three-bet to 20,000 by Daniel Moran from the big blind. Alt called.

Alt called an 11,000 bet from Moran on the 3?2?10? flop. Moran then checked on the 6? turn, prompting Alt to shove for 62,000 total.

"I have a ten," Moran announced as he contemplated his decision.

Moran eventually put in calling chips to put Alt at risk.

Dinesh Alt: A?J?
Daniel Moran: 10?7?

Moran had made the right call, but the 4? river provided Alt with a winning flush for the huge double-up.

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jon Kyte
Jon Kyte

Jon Kyte opened to 6,500 from under the gun and Julien Groenendijk defended his big blind.

Kyte continued with a bet of 6,500 when Groenendijk checked to him on the 3?2?9? flop, only to be faced with a check-raise to 20,000 from his opponent.

Kyte pondered his options for a while, before producing the all-in four-bet of 87,000.

Groenendijk asked for a count and on being informed of the sum, made a relatively quick call, with Kyte at risk.

Jon Kyte: A?4?
Julien Groenendijk: K?9?

Kyte was in trouble with his ace-high and straight draw in bad shape against Groenendijk's top pair of nines, and no help arrived on the 2?J? runout, eliminating Kyte and sending a significant pot to Groenendijk.

Hardcastle was in good shape versus his opponent with a dominating ace and after the J?2?6? flop held top pair versus his opponent's flush draw.

Miniucchi Busts Grasu and Damages Kono

Level 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Niculina Grasu
Niculina Grasu

Niculina Grasu was all-in from early position for 20,000 and action was folded to Reiji Kono in the small blind who called.

Marcello Miniucchi was in the big blind and pondered his options before producing the all-in three bet to 125,000. Kono quickly called, with Grasu and Miniucchi at risk.

Niculina Grasu: J?9?
Marcello Miniucchi: K?K?
Reiji Kono: Q?Q?

Miniucchi was in great shape with his pocket kings, and the K?10?J? flop improved him to top set, as well as giving Kono an up-and-down straight draw along with his pair of queens. Grasu wasn't out of it yet either as she had a gutshot straight draw, although Kono had two of her outs.

The 6? turn was a brick, and the K? river completed the runout, sending Miniucchi a substantial pot with quad kings, while leaving Kono with crumbs and sending Grasu to the exit.

Angelov Doubles Through Dehli

Level 17 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Nicklas Dehli opened to 10,000 on the button and was three-bet to 35,000 by Boris Angelov in the big blind. Undeterred, Dehli announced he was all in and Angelov quickly called all in for 172,000 total.

Boris Angelov: A?Q?
Nicklas Dehli: Ax6x

It was a misstep for Dehli, who found himself dominated.

The Q?A?Q? flop left Dehli drawing dead. The 9? turn and 10? river made it official and Angelov scored the massive double up.

Groenendijk Busts Rona

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Gergely Rona opened to 40,000 from middle position and action was folded to Julien Groenendijk in the big blind, who moved all in, putting Rona at risk if he made the call. After some thought, Rona put the rest of his chips in the middle, around 100,000 in total.

Gergely Rona: 8?8?
Julien Groenendijk: A?Q?

Rona was ahead with a pair of eights in a race, but the A?K?2? flop left him drawing thin.

The K? turn reignited some hope, with Rona now holding a flush draw, but the 4? river was a brick and sent him to the rail just before the conclusion of Day 1b.

Reiji Kono: K?3?
Humberto Lopes Galindo: 10?4?

Kono was a favorite to double up, but the 10?Q?Q?4?Q? runout improved Galindo to a full house — eliminating Kono just shy of the money and ending play for the day.

Day 1b got underway with 27 players and by the time late registration ended, a total of 167 entrants had joined the fray. Of those, 25 earned a Day-2 berth and made the money. The exact amount of a min-cash will be determined after all starting flights have been completed.

The Day 2 bubble burst at the start of Level 18 after Reiji Kono shoved his short stack with king-trey and lost out to Humberto Lopes Galindo's ten-four.

Other notables who made it to Day 2 include Marcello Miniucchi (191,000), Cecile Ticherfatine (180,000), Pokerstars ambassador Felix Schneiders (151,000), and Maria Lampropulos (65,000).

Less fortunate players who fell short of the money include Benny Glaser, PokerStars ambassador Benjamin Spragg, Daniel Smiljkovic, Jose Manuel Gonzalez, and Jon Kyte, who was eliminated by Julien Groenendijk after shoving with a wheel draw and failing to improve late in the day.

Any players who didn't make it to Day 2 still have multiple chances as there are still four starting flights left. The next starting flight is Day 1c, which will begin at noon local time on Thursday, February 15. Day 2 will commence on February 17.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue to bring you all the action from EPT Paris here at the luxurious Le Palais des Congres.
