A Set of Jacks Sends Schwaederle Packing

Nikita Kuznetcov set the stage with an under-the-gun raise to 700, quickly finding a caller in Klemens Roiter on the button. Cedric Schwaederle upped the ante from the small blind, three-betting to 2,800. After some deliberation and a glance at his opponents’ stacks, Phil Gross made the call from the big blind. When the action circled back to Kuznetcov, he wasted no time shoving his entire 28,600-chip stack into the middle.

Roiter bowed out, but Schwaederle called for his remaining 18,600, putting the pressure squarely on Gross. With both players covered, Gross decided to take his chances and called, sending the pot to a three-way showdown:

The flop came 6?3?4?, leaving Schwaederle's kings in the lead.

However, the turn brought the J?, completing a set for Kuznetcov and flipping the script.

Schwaederle still had outs for a river king, but the 8? fell instead, sealing the massive pot for Kuznetcov. Schwaederle’s tournament run came to an abrupt end, while Gross saw his gamble fall short.
