Mercier Flops the Boat

Our two remaining Trojans saw a flop of {J-Hearts}{6-Spades}{J-Diamonds}, John Juanda led for 55,000 and Jason Mercier called. With both players checking the {7-Diamonds} turn, Mercier fired out 75,000 on the {5-Hearts} river. After verbally going through the various hands that his young foe might have, Juanda called. Mercier showed {J-?}{6-?} for the flopped house, which, funnily enough, was the best hand.

Mercier Doubles Through First Hand

Very first hand heads up, and we have incredible all-in action!

Mercier made it 55,000, and Juanda made it all in to go. Mercier thought about it for a moment. "I'm either flipping or I have two live cards," he considered... and called!

Juanda: {A-Hearts} {2-Clubs}
Mercier: {Q-Spades} {J-Spades}

Flop: {10-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {7-Clubs}

Turn: {5-Clubs}

River: wait for it.... {J-Clubs}!

Jason Mercier doubles up to 1,072,000 and the chip lead, while John Juanda, who, remember, won the WSOPE main event just last week, is now the underdog with 649,000. As snoopy said, "That Juanda, he runs so bad..."

Preflop Aggression Turns to Check-Fest

A curious hand between Mercier and Juanda. Mercier made up the small blind and then called Juanda's big blind raise to 60,000.

Mercier checked the dangerous-looking {10-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} flop and Juanda asked how much Mercier had -- it was around 600,000, and Juanda checked.

They checked down the {J-Diamonds} turn and the {A-Hearts} river, at which point Juanda showed a king; Mercier mucked and it was enough to take the pot down.
