Hands #43 - 46: Schillhabel Doubles

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Stefan Schillhabel
Stefan Schillhabel

Hand #43: Stefan Schillhabel limped with {k-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} in the small blind before Valentin Messina raised with {j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} in the big blind. Schillhabel folded.

Hand #44: Schillhabel tried again. He had {k-Spades}{10-Spades} on the button and limped once more. Dominik Panka had {9-Clubs}{4-Spades} in the big blind and checked his option. The flop fell {j-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts} and both players checked to the {10-Diamonds} turn. Schillhabel bet 230,00 when checked to and Panka called to see the board complete with the {9-Spades}. Panka had got there and checked it over to Schillhabel who tank-checked to see the bad news.

Hand #45: Messina picked up {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} on the button and raised to 250,000. Jean Montury was in the big blind with {6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and called to a {6-Spades}{10-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop. Both players checked to the {2-Spades} turn where Messina's delayed c-bet for 275,000 was called by Montury. The {a-Clubs} came on the river and Montury checked to dace a 825,000 bet. Snap fold.

Hand #46: On a roll, Messina raised to 250,000 with {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} from under the gun and Schillhabel picked up {a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} in the big blind and shoved. Messina called but couldn't survive the {3-Spades}{a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts} board that paired his opponent's ace.

Hand #38: Chip Leader Valentin Messina opened to 250,000 from under the gun with the {A-Hearts}?{9-Clubs} and Dominik Panka called on the button with {K-Spades}?{J-Hearts}, short stack Stefan Schillhabel filled up in the big blind with {5-Spades}?{6-Spades}. The {5-Hearts}?{4-Diamonds}?{10-Diamonds} flop was checked to Panka and checked behind to see the {7-Spades} on the turn.

Schillhabel tanked for a while and then bet 400,000 to win the pot.

Hand #39: unknown action.

Hand #40: Jean Montury opened to 250,000 with {10-Diamonds}?{9-Hearts} and was called by Valentin Messina in the small blind with {3-Diamonds}?{3-Hearts} as well as Panka in the big blind with {K-Clubs}?{J-Clubs}. The three players checked the {K-Spades}?{5-Diamonds}?{Q-Spades} flop and Panka bet the {4-Spades} turn for 400,000 to receive two folds of the Frenchmen.

Hand #41: The action folded to Panka in the small blind and he raised to 325,000 with {9-Diamonds}?{9-Spades}. Montury looked at {A-Clubs}?{K-Clubs} in the big blind and three-bet to 875,000. Panka gave it some thought and called to see a flop of {Q-Diamonds}?{K-Spades}?{2-Hearts}. The Pole check-folded to a bet of 775,000 by the Frenchman.

Hand #42: Messina opened to 250,000 with {K-Hearts}?{4-Spades} and Montury three-bet to 520,000 out of the small blind, holding the {9-Diamonds}?{9-Hearts}. The chip leader let go and Montury won the pot preflop.

Urbanovich Continues to Dominate EPT Malta; Wins Record Fourth Event

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Dzmitry Urbanovich
Dzmitry Urbanovich

In the history of the European Poker Tour, no player has ever won four events at a festival. That changed on Friday night when Poland's Dzmitry Urbanovich took down the €220 No-Limit Crazy Pineapple event for his fourth win at the EPT Malta festival.

The 19 year old began his historic run by topping a field of 88 entries to win the €25,000 High Roller for €572,300, and then followed that up by winning the €1,000 No-Limit Deepstack Turbo Big Ante for €32,500.

"See you soon," Urbanovich joked with official EPT photographer Neil Stoddart after that win. It actually proved true too as the very next day he beat Jack Salter heads up to win the €5,000 No-Limit Turbo event for €110,000.

In the crazy pineapple event, which attracted 56 entries and created a prize pool of €10,864, Urbanovich defeated Team PokerStars Pro Marcin Horecki in heads-up play to capture the title and €3,260, a modest amount that no doubt took backseat to the record.

According to the PokerStars Blog, Horecki began heads-up play with a nearly 2-1 chip lead, but with blinds at 12,000/24,000 anything could happen. Indeed it did as Urbanovich, who was playing crazy pineapple for the first time, managed to take over the lead, and then in the final hand of the tournament, Horecki was all in, the flop came out {8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, and both players discarded one of their three cards.

Urbanovich showed the {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a flush draw, while Horecki held the {j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for a pair. The {4-Diamonds} turn paired Urbanovich, but he needed more help to win the pot. He found it too when the {J-Hearts} river have him the flush. Horecki had to settle for €2,350 while Urbanovich immediately rushed off to register the €1,100 triple stud event.

"The man is clearly on a mission to win everything he possibly has time for because immediately after snagging that victory, he jumped in another event," PokerStars touted after his latest win. "It seems that where there’s a trophy, then Urbanovich will be somewhere nearby."

It's also worth nothing that Urbanovich finished runner-up in the €1,100 Limit Stud Championships for €6,680. If it wasn't for John Thrower, the winner of that event, Urbanovich would have five EPT Malta titles on his résumé.

Prior to his unprecedented run at the EPT Malta, Urbanovich's biggest cash had been €31,950 for a third-place finish in the 2014 EPT Barcelona Event #39: €1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo. He also took down Event #13: $2,200 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo Bounty at the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $37,640, and followed that up six weeks later by winning the €2,200 Eureka High Roller in Rozvadov for €25,725.

Urbanovich's recent success has given him the early lead in the 2015 Global Poker Index Player of the Year race with 2,380.48 points, though that doesn't yet take into account his latest win. His prior wins had him in the hunt, but it was his performance in Malta that saw him jump 16 places to the top of the leaderboard.

Urbanovich has results dating back to July 2013, but it's safe to say he didn't become a superstar until visiting the first-ever EPT Malta. Something tells us we'll be seeing plenty more of him on the EPT, but it'll still be two years before he's old enough to travel to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker. Kind of reminds you of Ole Schemion, doesn’t it?

Hands #30 - 34: Panka Making Moves

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #30: Valentin Messina raised to 225,000 from under the gun with {k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and took the pot uncontested.

Hand #31: Dominik Panka picked up {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} under the gun and took the blinds and antes with a min-raise.

Hand #32: Three under the raises in a row. Jean Montury found {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} and raised to 210,000. Panka called with {a-Hearts}{q-Spades} in the big blind and flopped top pair on {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. Panka check-raised a 325,000 c-bet up to 850,000 after some thought. Montury called to see the {8-Hearts} on the turn and faced an all in bet of 2,540,000. It was an over-bet on the pot and Montury had no choice but to fold.

Hand #33: Messina picked up {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} on the button and raised to 225,000. Both blinds folded.

Hand #34: Panka raised to 200,000 off the button with {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Stefan Schillhabel defended his big blind with {5-Spades}{4-Spades}. The flop fanned {q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Panka bet his flush draw for the tune of 225,000. Schillhabel had bottom pair and came in with a check-raise to 605,000 which caused Panka to tank-call. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and Schillhabel led for 675,000. Panka went into the tank once more before shoving, prompting a quick fold from his opponent.

Javier Gomez Zapatero Eliminated in 5th Place (€205,300)

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Javier Gomez Zapatero knocks the table after the river card
Javier Gomez Zapatero knocks the table after the river card

Hand #26: Valentin Messina raised to 210,000 under the gun with the {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and took down the blinds and antes.

Hand #27: Unknown action.

Hand #28: Action folded to Messina in the small blind and he limped with the {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Dominik Panka checked his option from the big with the {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, the flop came down [qqd5c], and both players checked. When the {Q-Clubs} turn put three queens on the board, Messina bet 150,000 and Panka folded.

Hand #29: Action folded to a short-stacked Javier Gomez Zapatero in the cutoff and he moved all in for his last 940,000. Panka proceeded to move all in over the top from the small blind, which pushed out the big.

Panka: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Zapatero: {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Zapatero was dominated and in desperate need of some help. The {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop provided no hope, and neither did the {5-Spades} turn. The Spaniard needed a ten and a ten only on the river to stay alive, but it was not meant to be as the {8-Hearts} blanked. With that, Zapatero's dream of becoming Spain's first EPT winner came to an end. Instead, he had to settle for fifth place and €205,300 in prize money.

Hands #21-25: Messina With a Straight

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #21: Valentin Messina picked up {A-Diamonds}?{A-Hearts} for the second time in the first 21 hands and his raise scooped the blinds and antes.

Hand #22: Jean Montury raised to 200,000 and received a call from Messina in the big blind with {Q-Hearts}?{J-Hearts}. Montury made a continuation bet with his {7-Spades}?{6-Spades} on the {Q-Diamonds}?{K-Diamonds}?{K-Hearts} and Messina check-called the 255,000. On the {10-Clubs} turn, Messina checked again and Montury checked behind,

After the {2-Hearts} fell on the river, Messina was trying to get some value with his two pairs and bet 275,000 but Montury got out of the way.

Hand #23: Messina raised to 325,000 out of the small blind with his {10-Hearts}?{6-Clubs} and won the big blind and antes.

Hand #24: Stefan Schillhabel opened to 225,000 from under the gun with {A-Clubs}?{2-Hearts} and Messina three-bet to 510,000 from the button with {K-Spades}?{J-Clubs}. Montury glanced at his {A-Diamonds}?{K-Diamonds} in the big blind and his four-bet of 1.24 million shut down all further action.

Hand #25: Messina opened to 210,000 with {10-Spades}?{8-Spades} and Dominik Panka called on the button with {A-Hearts}?{J-Spades}, Schillhabel also tossed in the extra chips with {10-Clubs}?{9-Clubs}.

On a flop of {9-Hearts}?{7-Hearts}?{6-Spades}, Schillhabel check-called a continuation bet of 405,000 by Messina whereas Panka folded. The {2-Diamonds} on the turn, the German checked and Messina bet 1.1 million into a pot of just over 1.6 million. Schillhabel opted to call and the {K-Spades} on the river was a brick, changing nothing whatsoever.

Again the German checked and this time Messina's bet of 1.82 million didn't get called. The Frenchman increased his lead and is up to 40% of the total chips in play.

Hands #19-20: Gomez Zapatero in Danger

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #19: Javier Gomez Zapatero min-raised to 200,000 from the cutoff with {5-Clubs}?{5-Hearts} and Jean Montury defended in the big blind with {A-Spades}?{6-Clubs}. The {6-Diamonds}?{7-Clubs}?{2-Spades} flop improved the hand of the Frenchman and he check-called a continuation bet of 225,000 by Gomez Zapatero.

The {J-Spades} on the turn was checked through before the dealer burned and turned the {6-Spades} on the river. Montury's value bet of 365,000 was called and the Spaniard mucked when he was shown the trips sixes.

Hand #20: Dominik Panka raised to 200,000 from the button with {K-Hearts}?{10-Diamonds} and Montury called with an identical hand of {K-Clubs}?{10-Spades} from one seat over, Stefan Schillhabel tossed in the extra chips with {9-Hearts}?{9-Clubs} from the big blind.

On the three-way flop of {4-Hearts}?{7-Hearts}?{5-Diamonds} flop, the action was checked to initial raiser Panka and the Pole checked behind. The {5-Clubs} turn paired the board and this time Schillhabel bet 375,000 to win the pot.
