Germans Do Battle

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Max Altergott is the latest German to join the field and he wasted little time in battling with his countryman, Philipp Gruissem.

Altergott opened to 8,000 from the cut-off and was called Vladimir Troyanovsky in the next seat before Gruissem squeezed to 26,000 off the button. Both players called to the {j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop where Gruissem continued for 38,000. Only Altergott called to the {2-Spades} turn where both players checked. Altergott led for 42,000 on the {5-Diamonds} river and Gruissem released his hand.

Gruissem got his own back a few hands later after he four-bet to 52,000. He had opened the pot with a 6,000 under-the-gun raise before Dani Stern called and Altergott squeezed to 26,500 from the small blind. Gruissem's four-bet got both opponents to fold.
