Karim Kaladjou Bags the Lead in Day 1b of FPS Aix-les-Bains Main Event

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Karim Kaladjou

It was another action-packed day inside the Casino Grand Cercle, which saw 127 additional entrants join the France Poker Series Aix-les-Bain Main Event (hosted by PokerStars) for Day 1b. So far, the prestigious event has attracted 262 entrants across two starting flights with two additional flights still to come.

After a long 13-hour day, Karim Kaladjou emerged as the chip leader of the remaining 26 players after bagging up 366,000, good for the overall chip lead through two starting flights. Kaladjou's next closest competitor is Zine-Din Benrebai, who was just short of breaching the 300k mark with 292,000.

Day 1b got underway with 50 players and it didn't take long for the action to heat up.

Swiss poker pro Karo Nuri got off to a hot start, first by ending up on the right side of a preflop cooler followed by hitting a runner-runner flush against an opponent's straight. However, Nuri was unable to hang onto his momentum and ended up busting about half way through the day.

Simon Wiciak

PokerStars ambassador Simon Wiciak joined the fray later in the day and struggled to accumulate chips. Wiciak hovered around a starting stack and eventually busted late in the evening after losing a race against Jordan Charousset.

Other notables unable to last the day include Michel Molenaar, Ricardo Graells, Guillermo Gordo, and Fabian Rolli, who busted in brutal fashion against Augustin Ratiu's runner-runner flush.

Among the 26 to who were still standing at the end of the day was Cassandra Yong, who is the only lady thus far to bag into Day 2. Young had a mostly steady day of slight ups and downs, but was on the receiving end of a loose call that led to a double up after Yong four-bet shoved with pocket queens and was called by a player with seven-five suited.

The next starting flight is Day 1c, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 4 and will follow an identical structure as Days 1a and 1b. The fourth and final starting flight (Day 1d) will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and will feature accelerated 25-minute levels instead of the usual 45 minutes. Any players who bust during their flight will be permitted one reentry if it is their first time entering the event. Players will also be allowed one (re)entry into subsequent flights, with late registration closing at the end of Level 12.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue to bring you all the action leading into Day 2 and beyond here at the FPS Aix-les-Bains Main Event!

Chanson Drills the Turn to Double Through Essertel

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Thierry Chanson shoved for a bit over 70,000 from under the gun and just behind him, Jeremie Essertel also went all in for more. Everyone else folded and a showdown was held.

Thierry Chanson: A?J?All in
Jeremie Essertel: J?J?

Essertel had the best of it with his jacks and remained ahead on the 5?3?Q? flop. However, the A? turn paired Chanson's ace and left Essertel drawing to one out.

It wasn't meant to be, as the 7? river changed nothing and Chanson was awarded the double up on the last hand of the evening.

Meisser's Rivered Boat Sends Bagatin Reeling

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Sebastiano Bagatin raised to 6,500 from the small blind and Marco Meisser three-bet to 17,000 from the big blind. Bagatin called.

Bagatin check-called an 8,000 bet from Meisser on the A?A?J? flop and then both players checked on the 9? turn.

The 7? filled the river and Bagatin led out for 18,000. Meisser responded with a raise to 60,000 and Bagatin quickly called.

Meisser revealed 7?7? for a rivered full house and Meisser let out a sigh as he sent his hand into the muck.

Cassandra Yong opened to 5,000 from under the gun and the player in the cutoff three-bet to 17,500. Action folded back to Yong, who announced she was all in for 51,000 total. Yong's opponent called to put her at risk and a showdown was held.

Jordan Charousset opened to 3,000 first to act and action folded to Simon Wiciak, who shoved for his last 23,500 on the button. Charousset called to put Wiciak at risk and hands were revealed.

Simon Wiciak: K?J?All in

Ratiu Goes Runner-Runner to Eliminate Rolli

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Fabian Rolli
Fabian Rolli

Fabian Rolli was already all in for his remaining chips against Augustin Ratiu. It appeared Ratiu had opened from the hijack and Rolli shoved from the small blind. Ratiu called to put Rolli at risk and hands were revealed.

Fabian Rolli: Q?J?All in
Augustin Ratiu: A?J?

Rolli found himself dominated, but the 8?Q?Q? flop vaulted him into the lead with trip queens and left Ratui drawing slim to two running cards.

The 9? turn kept Ratiu drawing live to a flush, and the 2? river filled his unlikely draw to eliminate Rolli in dramatic fashion.

Preflop Pandemonium Ends With Thome More-Than Doubling up

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Julien Thome
Julien Thome

The player in the hijack opened to 1,500 and was three-bet to 3,600 by Julien Thome on the button. The player in the big blind four-bet to 8,900 and the initial raised called cold. Thome then shoved for approximately 20,000 total and the big blind went all in for approximately 40,000.

The initial raiser tanked, but eventually opted to fold and a showdown was held.

Julien Thome: J?J?All in
Big blind: A?Q?

It was a race, but the 7?4?4?8?9? runout came clean for Thome, who doubled up and then some with his jacks.

Nuri Flush With Chips

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Karo Nuri
Karo Nuri

Karo Nuri opened to 1,100 from the hijack and was called by both players in the blinds.

Action checked through on the 6?K?Q? flop and the player in the small blind led out for 2,000 after the 10? fell on the turn. Only Nuri called.

The 6? completed the board and Nuri's opponent bet 3,000. Nuri responded by raising to 16,500 and his opponent called.

Nuri tabled A?4? for the nut flush and his opponent frustratedly slammed AxJx face up for Broadway as the pot was sent Nuri's way.
