Kelopuro Takes It on the River

Blinds 25,000-50,000

Major action has been spread far and thin as most pots end preflop. One that went all the way saw Sami Kelopuro raise to 100,000 in the cutoff and Joao Vieira defended the big blind. On the {k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop, Vieira opted to check-raise from 62,500 to 190,000 and Kelopuro called with 728,246 behind.

The {7-Spades} turn was checked and Vieira check-folded the {a-Spades} river to a bet worth 329,500.

Astedt Takes From Vieira

Blinds 25,000-50,000

Niklas Astedt made it 110,000 to go from under the gun and was flat-called by Joao Vieira in the cutoff. The flop brought {j-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Astedt continued for 115,170, earning another call. Both then checked the {7-Diamonds} turn and {9-Hearts} river, which awarded the pot to Astedt with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} versus {a-Spades}{q-Spades}.

Showdown Pot for Vieira

Blinds 20,000-40,000

Joni Jouhkimainen opened to 84,000 from an early position and picked up one caller in Joao Vieira out of the big blins. On a {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop, Vieira opted to check-call for 75,200 and they then checked it down on the {2-Diamonds} turn and {3-Diamonds} river.

Vieira only had {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a pair of tens but that was enough, as Jouhkimainen's {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts} had missed entirely.

Blinds 20,000-40,000

Seth Davies min-raised from under the gun and Joni Jouhkimainen three-bet to 200,000 in a middle position. Davies jammed for 538,900 and was called by Jouhkimainen.

Seth Davies: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Davies doubled thanks to the king in the window. Sami Kelopuro in the small blind flashed {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}, which would have made a set.

Joni Jouhkimainen
Joni Jouhkimainen

The final $25,500 high stakes contest of the 2021 GG Spring Festival will play down to a winner today. As of 7.05 pm GMT, the last nine contenders out of a field of 172 entries will compete for the biggest slice of the $4,300,000 prize pool. They have $95,644 locked up for the efforts but all eyes are set on the top prize of $956,440 to end the series with a bang.

Finnish poker pro Joni Jouhkimainen emerged as the chip leader with a stack of 5,344,169 and he is the only player above 100 big blinds. Elio Fox, recent finalist of another $25,500 contest during the festival, sits in second place with 2,872,603. Joao Vieira follows in third with 2,325,872.

Finland's Sami Kelopuro, who already won two $25,500 buy-ins during the GGSF, fired nine entries and bagged up the fourth-biggest stack. He will need to finish at least sixth to almost break even in the tournament. Another recent champion for the joint-highest buy-in of the series is Niklas Astedt, who sits in sixth place on the overnight leaderboard.

As can be expected, the remaining contenders are all well-known names of the poker scene including Russian rising star Artur Martirosian, Isaac Haxton, Andras Nemeth, and Seth Davies.
