New York Rounders vs. Sao Paulo Mets

Day 1 Completed

Kaverman Takes Final Heat, Wins Match

Byron Kaverman defeated Tom Marchese by winning the final heat. The players split the first two heats, so it all came down to the last game. Kaverman came out victorious and takes down this heads-up match, 2-1.

In this final heat, Marchese took the chip lead. Kaverman was all-in and at risk, but managed to survive. He completed his comeback by hitting a king in the last hand.

Kaverman did limp in from the button with {9-Clubs}{K-Spades}. Marchese decided his {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} was good enough to push in his 33,000-stack, equalling twenty big blinds. Kaverman made the call.

Marchese had the best hand, but that didn't last long. The {K-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}-flop gave Kaverman the lead and it stayed that way after the {5-Spades}-turn and {10-Spades}-river.

Kaverman scores six points for his Sao Paulo Metropolitans, bringing their total up to 126 points. They are now solely third in the Americas conference, three points clear of Marchese's New York Rounders.

Double Up for Kaverman

Byron Kaverman was down to 20,000 chips in the 600/1,200-level but just found his much needed double up.

Tom Marchese pushed all-in with {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Kaverman didn't waste much time before calling with {A-Spades}{5-Spades}.

Marchese did flop a king, but Kaverman hit trips on the {K-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}-board. The {10-Spades} on the turn and {8-Diamonds}-river weren't of any danger for Kaverman, who doubled to 41,000 chips.

In the next couple of hands he won several sizeable pots and has now taken the chip lead.

Marchese Takes Chip Lead

Tom Marchese has taken the chip lead in this final heat. He already won some small pots, before he raked in a sizeable pot with top pair.

Byron Kaverman raised it up preflop. He made it 2,400 to go in the 300/600-level with {J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. Marchese called holding {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

The flop gave both a pair with {2-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. Both players checked and the {6-Hearts} fell on the turn. Marchese fired out a pot size bet of 4,900 and Kaverman called.

The river was the {7-Spades} and Marchese overbet all-in. Kaverman took his time, but folded.

Marchese Takes Second Heat, It's One Apiece

Tom Marchese keeps the New York Rounders hopes alive for a victory in this match. He won the second heat and the game is level now.

In the last hand, blinds were up to 1,000/2,000 and Byron Kaverman had 38,000 chips left. Tom Marchese decided his {K-Spades}{9-Hearts} was good enough to push Kaverman all-in and the Sao Paulo Mets player made the call, holding {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

Kaverman was in a good spot to find a double up, but Marchese made a straight on the turn when the board ran out {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{J-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

Marchese did not only level the match but also scored three points for the New York Rounders.

The final heat will be the decider in this match.

Marchese Comes Back

This second heat looks a lot like the first one. Like last time, Marchese was down early but managed to come back to an even stack.

Marchese had {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}, while Byron Kaverman was holding {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The flop gave {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and with 8,160 in the middle, Marchese made a bet of 4,080. Kaverman check-called.

On the {4-Clubs}-turn Kaverman check-called another half pot bet, before folding to a 15,000 bet on the {2-Clubs}-river.

Bluff Goes Wrong for Marchese

Like the first heat, Tom Marchese is down early in the match.

He just tried a big bluff, but got picked off by Byron Kaverman.

Marchese had {8-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and missed his straight draw on a {10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{A-Hearts}-board. He fired a pot sized bet of 11,000 chips on the river, but Kaverman had rivered a pair of aces with {8-Clubs}{A-Spades} and made the call.
