Nothing Like Talking to a Wall...

Eric Levesque
Eric Levesque
With the board showing {Q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and a whole heap of chips already in the middle, we walked over to table two, where chip leader Eric Levesque was contemplating calling a 100,000 bet made by his heads-up opponent, Clay Maguire.

“I think you got tens,” said Levesque, thinking aloud.

“I think you’ll have a customer. You think I should go there?” he asked.

No answer from Maguire.

“You have a couple of seconds to convince me. Do you want to convince me?”

Still no answer from Maguire.

“No? I just don’t believe you. I just don’t,” added Levesque. “If anybody wants to call time, please.”

“Do you want the pressure?” asked another player at the table.

A few moments later, Maguire finally piped up:
“Time.”

“Who called time?” Levesque demanded to know. “He called time?” he asked, pointing directly at Maguire.

The dealer nodded.

A couple more minutes of painstaking deliberation passed before Levesque threw his cards face-up into the muck: {Q-?}{10-?}

“Do you have anything to say?” Levesque asked Maguire.

“No, other than I don’t know why you’re talking to me when I’ve got headphones on,” Maguire replied. “I couldn’t hear a word you said.”

After the hand, Maguire stacked up 260,000 in chips while Levesque dropped slightly below the 400,000 mark for the first time today.
