Day 2 Concludes
Out of the 356 players that began the tournament, only 183 of them returned to action for Day 2. It took over 14 hours and 12 levels of play, but the field has been whittled down to just 36. Everyone left is forunate enough to have earned a return on their investment with everyone that returns tomorrow earning at least $4,619.
Many of the big names that entered the day failed to make it to the money. Angel Guillen, Veronica Dabul, Brandon Demes and Dan Frank all saw their LAPT hopes dashed before they could reach the money. Leo Fernandez was also eliminated today, but he did manage to squeak into the money for a 41st-place finish.
Topping the pack to end the day is Rudy Blondeau. He stormed to the front of the pack with a few massive pots including one worth an addition of about 200,000 chips alone when he eliminated Vilson Polmann with pocket queens. Blondeau rounded out the day with 536,500 in chips.
The chip leader coming into the day was Matthias Habernig. He did well to maintain a big stack throughout the entire day and closed out with 298,000. Andre De Oliveira Sa (511,000), Dayan Vardanega (380,000) and Miguel Velasco (392,500) also built some nice stacks during the day. Sander Aalders and Paulo Rink are also moving onto Day 3.
Play resumes tomorrow when the final 36 players return to play down to a final table of just eight. With everyone already in the money and guaranteed some form of payout, tomorrow shouldn't be as long as today was. There's plenty of poker passion going around here in Florianopolis and it makes for quite the atmosphere here on the tournament floor.
