Rafael Pardo Eliminated in 7th Place ($20,864)

Rafael Pardo (7th Place)
Rafael Pardo (7th Place)

Alexis Gomez opened for 190,000 from middle position and watched as action folded to Rafael Pardo in the big blind. He thought for a moment before moving all in for 435,000. Gomez made the call and the cards were turned up.

Showdown
Gomez: {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Pardo: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}

We've become accustomed to double ups as of late, so it was surprising to see the at-risk player fall behind on the {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{10-Spades} flop. Suddenly Pardo was in need of a five to stay alive. The {6-Hearts} turn was close, but no cigar. It was down for the river for Pardo, and it would ultimately be the last card of his LAPT-Colombia Main Event as the {8-Clubs} peeled off.

McDonald Fighting Back

After doubling Victor Forero, Stuart McDonald raised to 160,000 under the gun and received calls from Jessica Bedoya and Alexis Gomez in the blind. When the flop fell {3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, action checked to McDonald and he simply moved all in, which cleared the field and added about 400,000 to his stack.

In the next hand, action folded to Gomez in the small blind and he raised to 215,000, which McDonald called. Gomez then led out for 190,000 on the {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop, only to fold McDonald’s all-in raise.

Big Slick for Forero

We’re not sure how the betting occurred, but Victor Forero was all in preflop for 965,000 and up against Stuart McDonald.

Showdown
McDonald: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Forero: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

It was only a matter of time before two big hands collided, and this was a classic example. Double ups have been the order of the day, and this one was no different as the board ran out {3-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Clubs} to give Forero the win.

Bedoya Doubles

Jonathan Monsalves raised to 165,000 from the hijack and was called by Jessica Bedoya in the big blind. The latter then took control of the pot, betting 100,000 on the {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop. Monsalves made the call, and proceeded to call bets of 200,000 on the {A-Spades} turn and 165,000 on the {6-Clubs} river.

At this point, Bedoya table {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for a pair of aces, which prompted Monsalves to muck.

Prado vs. McDonald

Stuart McDonald raised to 160,000 from the hijack and received a call from Rafael Prado in the big blind. Prado proceeded to check-call a bet of 185,000 on the {Q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{Q-Spades} flop, and then both players checked the {2-Hearts} turn. When the {3-Diamonds} appeared on the river, Prado took the initiative and bet 350,000, which McDonald called.

Prado showed {K-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for king high, which was no good against the {7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} of McDonald.

Jonathan Markovitz Eliminated in 8th Place ($14,636)

Jonathan Markovitz (8th place)
Jonathan Markovitz (8th place)

Action folded to Jonathan Markovitz on the button and he moved all in for 610,000. Unfortunately for him, Stuart McDonald woke up with {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} in the small blind and made the call. Markovitz was behind but alive with his {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, but he needed some major help after the flop fell {Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. The {6-Diamonds} was not what he needed, and Markovitz was drawing dead. The {7-Clubs} was put out on the river as Markovitz shook hands with the table and made his exit in eighth place.

Not the End for Menendez

Rafael Pardo was under the gun and opened for 155,000, which Stuart McDonald three-bet to 365,000 from the cutoff. Then, after the button folded, Julian Menendez moved all in from the small blind for 760,000. Pardo wasted little time in getting out of the way, which wasn’t what McDonald was hoping for as he stated he’d rather of him called. Instead, McDonald ended up making the call.

Showdown
McDonald: {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Menendez: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}

It was a bad spot for McDonald, but the {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop gave him a straight draw to any queen. However, the {10-Hearts} turn quickly put an end to any hope of that as Menendez filled up. The meaningless {9-Diamonds} was revealed on the river and Menedez doubled to 1,815,000.
