Overton in Overdrive
Day 2 has been a quick one with just six levels required to set us up for the run to 24 players tomorrow. When the day began, it was Chis Tryba with the big stack, and he more or less treaded water today to bag up a chip count similar to what he started with.
The same cannot be said for two of the others who were chasing Tryba at the start of the day. Both Victor Ramdin and Vanessa Selbst (the defending champion of this event) had monster days, and both are bagging up monster stacks as we speak. Ramdin will have 296,100 and Selbst will have 339,200 when they return tomorrow, plenty of ammunition to attack this thinning field.
Speaking of thinning the field, the list of notables who fell on this Day 2 is significant. All three of the former WSOP Main Event champs who survived Day 1 were sent packing before the midway point today. Jonathan Duhamel didn't make it out of the first level before Joe Cada helped to usher him out, but the latter fell shortly thereafter. Mortensen was the last holdout, but he too succumbed to the heat before play concluded. Also exiting was a former November Niner, Eric Buchman, the NAPT Passport winner and Big Game big winner Bobby "The Bus" Ferdinand, former PCA winner Poorya Nazari, and Jason Mercier, who's a legitimate threat to win any event he enters. He was soon joined on the rail by a few more of the Team PokerStars family, including Pat Pezzin, George Lind III, and Vanessa Rousso.
Those who fared well are a similarly notable list of names, albeit a much smaller one. It's shaping up to be a very entertaining Day 2 as sharks like Adam Junglen, Olivier Busquet, Adam Geyer, and Nick Binger courtesy of an eleventh-hour double up. Tryba's still alive too, as are Bernard Lee, Mike Beasley, Steve O'Dwyer, and Team PokerStars Pro Greg DeBora.
Everyone's chasing Aaron Overton, though, the young man from Philly stuffing an impressive 598,700 chips into his bag. It must be nice to have 150 big blinds and 5% of the chips in play with about 7 0 players left, and Overton's is the stack to catch tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow, Day 3 gets rolling at noon, and we hope to see you then as we play into the money and on down to the final 24 players. Until then, all that's left is goodnight!
