Day 4 Done With Selbst in Second Again

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante
Chip leader Tyler Kenney
Chip leader Tyler Kenney

Day 4 of the PokerStars.net NAPT Mohegan Sun is all over but the shoutin'. What began nearly eight hours ago with 24 players is now history with just eight souls surviving to see one final day.

When the starting gun fired today, it was Vanessa Selbst in control and looking for a remarkable repeat victory here at Mohegan Sun. She matriculated her stack up over 2 million in short order, and it was looking like the Vanessa Selbst show was going to run away with this thing a day early. Things cooled down for the Team PokerStars Pro during the last couple levels, though, and she'll have to settle for entering the final table in second place. It's probably a good omen. Last year, Selbst was the chip leader for the bulk of Day 3 and 4 before relinquishing that top spot during nine-handed play. You remember how that ended up working out for her...

In any event, with Selbst sliding a bit, the top spot belongs to Tyler Kenney alone now. He began this penultimate day in the middle of the pack with just shy of a half million chips, and he sat still for the first few rounds of the day before mounting an attack on the leaders. During Level 22, Kenney won a big pot off David Stefanski to crest the million-chip mark, and soon thereafter, he preflop five-bet his way past the two-million mark. A minute later, he and Selbst tangled up in a pot that pulled the two of them very close in chips, and she doubled up Aaron Overton a few minutes later to complete the changing of power. It was Kenney all alone at the top, and he continued to bolster his stack for the rest of the night, bagging up 3.021 million at night's end to set the pace for tomorrow.

Here's how the rest of the stacks look heading into the final table:

1Joe Tehan1,238,000
2Thomas Hoglund Jr.541,000
3Dan Shak1,571,000
4Vincent Rubianes1,711,000
5Steve O'Dwyer1,032,000
6Tyler Kenney3,021,000
7Aaron Overton373,000
8Vanessa Selbst2,249,000

The action resumes at high noon tomorrow under the bright lights of the ESPN cameras, and it figures to be a memorable final table. All eyes will be on Selbst as she tries for the unprecedented repeat, and we'll have a ringside seat to bring you all of the ace-cracking action leading to the crowning of our champion.

Until tomorrow, all that's left is goodnight.
