Chip and Chair

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Daniel Aldridge
Daniel Aldridge

During hand-for-hand play Todd Tucker called us over to talk about the run Daniel Aldridge had been on since the 2,000/4,000 level.

At one point Adridge was down to his last 5,000, found himself in the big blind, and was short 3,000 for a complete big blind due to the 4,000 ante.

He won the hand then went on a heater.

Aldridge was sitting on 160,000 during our conversation.

Bubble Bursts on the River

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ken Winn
Ken Winn

Fifteen minutes into the Level 18 Kenneth Winn found himself all-in in the small blind for his remaining 4,000. Early position Rodney Springs called the 8,000 big blind as did Mika Evans in late position. Todd Tucker, in the big blind, checked his option.

Action check through on the {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop. It would do so again on {k-Diamonds} turn.

With the {q-Hearts} river Spriggs and Tucker checked to Smith who announced "queen." Winn stood up with a pained look and a "dangit," as he turned over {j-Spades}{2-Hearts} for a flopped pair that had put him in the lead. Spriggs and Tucker mucked.

Winn commented to us after the hand that had survived three orbits on the big blind and that he had been card dead the whole time. He stated he had to throw away pocket fives and deuces during that stretch.

Winn stated he does not normally play tournaments and that he played after buying the seat on a fluke off of someone who had won it in a satellite.

Barker Chips Up

Level 16 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Rodney Spriggs opened the pot for 10,000 and Robert Barker called from middle position.

Frank McKeon came along from the big blind and Spriggs said, "Uh oh. We're in the danger zone now."

The three players saw a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. McKeon and Spriggs checked. Barker bet 20,000 and McKeon went into the tank, but ultimately folded. Spriggs quickly threw his hand away and Barker collected the pot.

Sullivan Saved

Level 16 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ken Sullivan
Ken Sullivan

John Reynolds opened the action with a raise to 12,000. The table folded around to Ken Sullivan in the small blind, who announced he was all-in.

Reynolds went in the tank for several minutes before finally making the call.

Ken Sullivan: {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
John Reynolds: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Reynolds was ahead and remained ahead on the {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop. When the {9-Hearts} arrived on the turn Sullivan picked up more hope to turn the tables. Fortune delivered when the {a-Hearts} arrived on the river, saving his tournament life.

Robbins Doubles through Mullens

Level 16 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Chance Robbins
Chance Robbins

We missed the preflop blow-by-blow but Chance Robbins got all his chips in the middle before the flop and was called by Shane Mullens.

Chance Robbins: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Shane Mullens: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Robbins was the player all-in and we were off to the races. The flop came {8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} to keep Robbins in the lead, but the {k-Hearts} hit the turn to flip the percentages.

With no straight or flush draw, Robbins would need a nine to stay alive and lightning struck when the {9-Spades} came on the river.
