Day 1a Concludes
The first flight for the Main Event at the 2010 Full Tilt Poker Merit Cyprus Classic has seen it's starting day come and go here in Cyprus. A little over 100 players showed up on Day 1a and that tops the amount of players who showed up last year for this event. The later starting days tend to increase in entrants, meaning this field is only going to get bigger and bigger. Only a handful of the players that played today hit the rail before it was over.
It looks to be Nicolas Chouity who sits at the top of the chart. He won a big hand with aces to double up and storm to about 120,000 in chips. He finished out the day with 119,600 and that should make him hard to catch for all the players starting tomorrow.
Some of the other notables who took to action today were Tommy Vedes, Julian Gardner and Huseyin Yilmaz. All three of them were eliminated on the day, but there are still plenty of recognizable faces that made it through to Day 2.
Chip Jett bagged up 80,750, having himself a great starting day. Chino Rheem (40,300), Kelly Kim (48,025), Van Marcus (67,500) and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi (36,025) are also moving on.
Tomorrow will see a brand new set of players take to the felt for Day 1b of the Main Event here in stunning Cyprus. It's going to be another great five levels of action followed promptly by a party on the beach. We're looking forward to everything and we hope you are as well. Even though you may not be able to come party with us, there's plenty of room to stay tuned to the action right here on PokerNews as we bring it to you live from the floor. Play kicks off at 2:00 pm local time and we'll see you then!
