Quick Break

We're not exactly sure what is going on, but the players have left the room, and there is music playing over the PA system. It appears we are on some sort of impromptu break for the time being.

Antonin Tesseire Eliminated in... Not So Fast!

Antonin Asks For a Four
Antonin Asks For a Four
Action for this hand passed around to the blinds where for the second time in a row, Claudio Rinaldi moved all in, having the short-stacked Antonin Tesseire well covered. Tesseire folded the previous time, but this time he quickly made the call, bringing his throngs of supporters to their feet.

Rinaldi: {J-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}
Tesseire: {4-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}

Tesseire had to figure he was racing, and he seemed content to flip a coin for double or nothing. With everyone in the building on their feet, the dealer put out the first three community cards: {9-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {9-Clubs}. The flop is relatively safe for the at-risk player, but Rinaldi picked up a few more potential outs.

Turn: {J-Hearts}. The fourth card draws a big reaction from the crowd, most of whom are rooting for Tesseire. Rinaldi picks up his pair putting Tesseire on the very brink of extinction. He approaches the table and gives some very clear and emphatic instructions to the dealer, pleading for him to put out a saving four. As everyone cranes their necks to get a better view, the dealer knocks the table and puts out the final card:

{4-?}

The reaction from the crowd is overwhelming as the room erupts in a frenzied roar and several people rush onto the stage to jostle Tesseire. The man himself runs a quick lap around the stage, lifting up his shirt and screaming at the top of his lungs.

In an absolute stunner, Antonin hits a two-outer on the river to not only stay alive, but double up into healthy contention with just under 2,000,000 chips..

Hansen in the House

Gus Hansen has just arrived and was introduced to the audience. He received a big round of applause from everybody and then in a twist of humor Antonin Tesseire beckoned him over to take his place. Hansen jogged over and momentarily sat in Tesseire's seat and pretented to play. A nice way to cut the tension here in Cannes!

Updated Chip Counts

Here's the way they four remaining players count down:

Alain Roy - 3,400,000
Claudio Rinaldi - 2,800,000
Stephane Bazin - 2,300,000
Antonin Tesseire - 940,000

Philippe Narboni Eliminated in 5th Place ($223,270)

Philippe Narboni - 5th Place
Philippe Narboni - 5th Place
Alain Roy raises first in, pushing out 225,000 chips. Next to act is Philippe Narboni, and he moves all in for an additional 634,000 on top. The other three opponents duck out, and Roy considers briefly before making the call, putting nearly 2,000,000 up for grabs in this pot.

Roy: {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}
Narboni: {K-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}

With Philippe Narboni's tournament life hanging in the balance, he watches what could be his final five community cards: {3-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}. The board does indeed run dry for Narboni, and he bids his table farewell with a smile, notching a fifth place finish. For his efforts over the last four days, he will cash a check for $223,270. Not too shabby.

Moving Chips

From the cutoff seat, Stephane Bazin put in a raise to 300,000. Alain Roy gave him action with a flat call from the big blind.

Heads up, the flop brought {J-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}. Both players checked rather quickly.

When the turn card came, Bazin led out with 375,000 more chips. Roy rubbed his face, then announced, "All in." Quickly, Bazin folded, and Roy pulls in more than 600,000 of his opponent's chips.

Blind Battle

Claudio Rinaldi raises from the small blind and Antonin Tesseire makes the call from the big blind before we see a {2-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}.

Rinaldi continues his aggression with a 350,000 bet and once again Tesseire calls before the turn comes {4-Diamonds}.

No messing around from Rinaldi as he moves all-in, forcing a fold from his opponent. Rinaldi up to 3,400,000 now.
