Today's Bad Idea: Playing Pots Against Faraz Jaka

Faraz Jaka
Faraz Jaka

We only walked up to the river, so everything before that comes from the questionable memory of announcer Robbie Thompson.

Thompson tells us that Lawrence Greenberg was the preflop raiser, and Jaka came along out of the blinds to go heads-up. Jaka check-called a bet on the {10-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {5-Spades} flop, then led out with a small bet of 30,000 when the {5-Hearts} paired the board on fourth street. That's where we picked up the action for ourselves as we could sense the pot inflating from across the room. Greenberg raised to 130,000, Jaka shoved in, and Greenberg called off his last ~500,000 to put himself at risk. He was right, though.

Showdown
Greenberg: {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}
Jaka: {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts}

Sometimes good reads go unrewarded in this game, and such was the case here for Greenberg. Jaka's playing hot and running even hotter, and the river {6-Diamonds} completed his straight to earn him another elimination. We're going to have to get our abacuses out and do some figuring, but Jaka must have about 3.6 million now, and quite possibly closer to 3.7 or 3.8 million.

"Good call," he complimented Greenberg, though it didn't seem to be much consolation to the freshly eliminated gent.
