Seat 2: Shawn "buck21" Buchanan, 35, Vancouver/BC, Canada
Shawn Buchanan is one of the most decorated players in online poker history. Notoriously known as "buck21" on the internet, Buchanan became the first player ever to complete the PokerStars "Triple COOP" after taking down the TCOOP-33: $82 Razz Turbo Event back in January 2014. That tournament earned him only a small five-figure prize but Buchanan's showcase of COOP series wins is far richer than that. He's captured a record six SCOOP titles, doubling his three-title collection with further three wins in 2016 alone. That spectacular hat-trick included two six-figure paydays of $270,125 and 214,436, respectively.
Incredibly accomplished online, the 35-year-old Canadian pro has been stellar on the live felt as well. He has amassed well over $6 million in live tournaments, and his PCA Main Event cash will help him move inside Canada's all-time top ten. Buchanan's pedigree features a WPT title from 2007 Mandalay Bay Poker Championship. That victory worth $768,775 remains Buchanan's career-best live result to date. He has two other wins to his name, both of them from PCA.
It's hard to believe that such a well-rounded player hasn't won a WSOP bracelet yet. Buchanan, who excels in mixed games, has had several near misses. He might get extra motivation to try to finally claim the gold wrist-wear should he take down the PCA Main Event here. He'd be two-thirds of the way to completing the elusive Triple Crown; something he's already mastered online.
