Lee Eliminated by Fontan Castrillon

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Won Jae Lee
Won Jae Lee

A reraise to 5,600 was out in front of Won jae Lee and Paul Fontan Castrillon then squeezed to more than 50,000, which had the South Korean covered. Deep in the tank, Lee eventually called it off for the 26,900 he had behind.

Won Jae Lee: Q?J?
Paul Fontan Castrillon: K?K?

The K?10?3? flop provided some outs with the open-ended straight draw but the 3? turn ended Lee's run for now, which made the Q? river a formality.

Thompson Scores a Knockout

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Gary Thompson
Gary Thompson

The seats of Joseph Magnotti and Kyunghun Kim over on table six are empty and both recently departed. Joseph Reyes had increased his stack and Gary Thompson then did the same by knocking out Kim.

A battle of the blinds led to the A?8?2?9? turn that got checked through. Kim bet the 3? river for 3,700 and instantly called all-in when Thompson splashed in his T-5,000 chips for a big raise. Thompson flipped over the 3?3? for a rivered set and Kim sighed, then sent his cards straight into the muck.

Chun Takes One on the Chin

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Three ways to the 9?5?3? flop, the action checked to Joshua Chun and he bet 7,000 on the button. Po Hsiun Liao raised big in the small blind for Noel Araniel to tank-fold his cutoff and Chun quickly called all-in.

Joshua Chun: A?A?
Po Hsiun Liao: Q?Q?

"Lady please," Liao demanded and the wish was instantly granted with the Q? turn, the 8? river was then a blank.

"Nice hand ... that was quick," Chun sighed after he had entered only a few minutes ago.

One Chip Is All You Need

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Gary Thompson
Gary Thompson

After an all-in showdown had gone wrong, Gary Thompson was down to a single T-100 chip and he got that in. Daniel Francis raised the button and folded when Thanh Ha Duong jammed.

Gary Thompson: 5?3?
Thanh Ha Duong: A?Q?

The K?6?5?4?8? board delivered the five, bumping Thompson's stack to 900.

He then jammed again and was called three ways. It checked around on the K?Q?5? flop and Lorelyn Estacion check-called a bet worth 1,500 by Francis on the 3? turn. She did so again for 5,500 on the 6? river and Francis tabled the A?2? for a missed draw, dropping to 1,000 himself. Estacion won the side pot with the Q?10? but Thompson had the best of it with the K?5?,

Doddapaneni Doubles Through Beh

Level 5 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Sriharsha Doddapaneni
Sriharsha Doddapaneni

On a heads-up turn of Q?10?7?A?, Kok Weng Beh bet 7,500 out of the small blind. Sriharsha Doddapaneni had re-entered into the same seat where he previously busted and called on the button.

Beh then jammed the K? river for 21,800. That sent Doddapaneni into a frenzy and he mulled it over for a bit to then call for the 18,200 he had behind. Beh tabled the 9?8? for a missed open-ender, as it was Doddapaneni who improved to a straight with the J?9? to double.

Beh was down to pocket change and departed soon after.

Moses Saquing

In three-way action to the Q?6?5? flop, Tom Radbone checked out of the blinds and so did Kai Lee Tse in the cutoff. Moses Saquing then bet 500 on the button only for Radbone to check-raise to 2,600, earning two calls.

Radbone led the 8? turn for 3,700 to force out Tse and Saquing made it 11,000 to go. The shove by Radbone followed and Saquing snap-called.

Moses Saquing: 9?7?
Kai Lee Tse: Q?10?

No card in the deck except for a joker could help Tse and the 2? river confirmed the double of Saquing for 24,800.

A preflop raising war saw Raphael Bulaong squeeze to 2,200 and he then snap-called when Jen Chun Chiu pushed all-in for 27,300 total.

Jen Chun Chiu: A?K?
Raphael Bulaong: A?A?

Welcome to Day 1b of the 2023 Poker Dream Manila Main Event

Poker Dream Merchandising
Poker Dream Merchandising

Two starting days remain for poker enthusiasts from near and far to enter the 2023 Poker Dream Manila Main Event in the Grand Wing Casino at Newport City, Metro Manila, just across the street of the international airport. The flagship tournament of the fourth ever Poker Dream live poker stop comes with a price tag of PHP66,000 ($1,211) and PHP20,000,000 guarantee ($362,000).

Yesterday's first starting day generated a field of 141 entries of which 22 players made it through when the action concluded. Each of the three flights is scheduled to play down to the top 15% of the field, all of which will then have locked up a portion of the prize money already.

Day 1b is slated to kick off at 1pm local time in the grand ballroom with a level duration of 40 minutes each. Furthermore, there is also a Turbo Day 1c as of 8pm local time as well with a reduced level duration of 20 minutes each. For both of these flights, the late registration remains open until the start of level ten. All participants receive 30,000 in chips and unlimited re-entries are available during the registration period.

All those who failed to advance on Day 1a can take another shot throughout the day and even those unhappy with their chips accumulated so far can buy-in again and try to run up their stack further. Should one or more player bag up chips more than once, they will carry forward the bigger stack to Day 2 and receive a min-cash for their efforts as the lesser stack gets taken out of play.

Whether or not anyone will be able to surpass the 421,000 chips of Wai Keong Yong last night remains to be seen. One thing, however, is for certain. A long day of live poker action in Asia is ahead for all those wishing to secure a portion of the prize pool. There is also a PHP15,000 NLHE Turbo Side Event available as well which kicks off at noon local time and plays down to a winner today.

The PokerNews live updates will focus on Day 1b, which features a 15-minute break every three levels and a 50-minute dinner break after level nine which lasts until approximately 8.20 pm local time.
