Chi Doubles Through Pu

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

It looked like Vietnam’s Thinh Nguyen Chi and China’s Gui Dong were all set to battle it out once again, but then Wei Ran Pu had to get in the way and spoil all the fun. However, being as Chi has just earned himself a double up at Pu’s expense we are sure he was not unhappy with the result.

Pre-flop there had been an under-the-gun limp before Dong popped it up to 650 to go from middle position. Pu made the call from the button, as did the small blind, before Chi re-popped to 2,225 in total, leaving himself 13,775 behind.

The limper folded but Dong looked like he wanted to tango and threw in the call, as did Pu and it was three-way to a flop of {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

Chi did not look happy about the ace and checked the action over to Dong, who checked behind. Pu however, seemed to like the flop just fine and fired out a two-thirds pot bet of 4,200.

Chi mulled it over as this represented a significant proportion of his remaining chips, but eventually decided to call a slid a single blue 5k chip over the line. Dong looked perplexed and said something to that effect, eventually throwing his cards into the muck to take the action heads-up to the {3-Hearts} turn.

This brought a second check from Chi, who now had just 9,575 remaining and Pu decided to test his mettle, moving all-in for 48,275, though in reality he was only risking what Chi had left.

The Vietnamese player thought long and hard, but being as a flush draw was most definitely in Pu’s range he eventually decided to make the call.

It was the right one, and Pu rolled over {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, which was trailing to Chi’s {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} and the latter thumped the table in appreciation of the fact he had just made a good call.

Chi’s tenacity was rewarded when the river bricked out and came down {10-Spades} to grant the Vietnamese player the double.
