Cheung Puts Big Hit on Wei

Sparrow Cheung took down a massive pot

An absolutely huge hand has recently gone down at the final table that ate into 5-minutes of the end of level break, and it was a doozy.

It was Lim Chin Wei who lit the fuse on a hand that would sizzle slowly before culminating in an explosion of action. Wei made it 250,000 to go from under-the-gun and Je Ho Lee called from the button. Danny Tang called from the small blind and then Sparrow Cheung squeezed to 1 million in the big blind.

Wei moved all in for 4.35 million and Lee looked pained by the decision and tanked for several minutes before folding (we’ll tell you what he had below) and Tang got out of the way. Cheung however, could not get his chips over the line fast enough.

Sparrow Cheung: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Lim Chin Wei: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

That’s the second time Cheung has woken up with pocket queens when an opponent has pocket tens and the {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds} run out saw Cheung win the monster pot, while Wei was left with just 6.5 big blinds. Je Ho Lee told the table he folded pocket jacks after the dust had settled.

Pre-Flop Poker

Level 21 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante

Lim Chin Wei opened the action with an under-the-gun raise to 250,000 but found no customers and took down the blinds and antes. Je Ho Lee won the next pot, but we got to see a flop this time.

Lee made it 250,000 to go from UTG and Wei defended from the big blind, but folded out the {5-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop to a Lee continuation bet.

Sparrow Cheung tried to get something going from the button the next hand with a raise to 250,000 but Wei nipped that in the bud immediately with a re-raise to 675,000 from the small blind.

Eugene Co Eliminated in 5th Place (HK$421,400)

Danny Tang surprised Sparrow Cheung after limping the small blind with {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} but Cheung did not get out of line so the pot was a small one. However, the hand that followed was definitely not a small one and it saw Eugene Co’s time at the final table come to a close.

Down to 1.8 million Co moved all-in from under-the-gun and the action folded around to Sparrow Cheung on the button who asked for a count. Cheung looked sorely tempted but then eyed up the big stack of Je Ho Lee, who was sitting in the big blind, and decided to let it go.

It was as well that he did and after Lim Chin Wei folded out the small blind, Lee called instantly and Co found himself in a great deal of trouble.

Eugene Co: {a-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Je Ho Lee: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Just like a lot of the hands yesterday Lee is catching cards at the perfect time and Cheung definitely dodged a bullet there and told us he folded ace-jack.

The {5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop left Co needing to hit running fives to stay alive and the likelihood of that was a slim one. The {8-Hearts} turn left the Filipino drawing dead and he got to his feet, shook everyone’s hand and prepared to exit the tournament area. The {j-Spades} completed the hand and Co’s tournament and he headed off to collect the equivalent of $53,945.

That pot gives Lee a commanding lead and the Korean is now sitting on a stack in excess of 10 million in chips.

Break Time

Level 21 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante

The five remaining final tablists are on a short unscheduled 10-minute break. Je Ho Lee and Lim Chin Wei tangled in a big hand that saw the Korean edge into the lead shortly before the break and here's how the tournament landscape is shaping up.

Chien Jenyen Eliminated in 6th Place (HK$348,700)

Level 21 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante
Chien Jenyen
Chien Jenyen

The action is coming to the boil on the 2017 Suncity Cup final table and there has been a third elimination with Taiwan’s Chien Jenyen the latest player to fall. Jenyen went out swinging, moving all-in for close to 2.5 million from the button over the top of a Sparrow Cheung middle position open. Cheung called immediately and the cards were turned over.

Sparrow Cheung: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Chien Jenyen: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

It’s a little unlucky to run a decent sized pocket pair into a bigger one when play is short-handed and Jenyen was the at-risk player, though should Cheung lose he would not be left with all that many chips. As it was the board ran out {9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{k-Clubs} to give Cheung close to a double-up, which he celebrated with a fist bump with neighbor Danny Tang, while Jenyen headed for the cage to collect the equivalent of $44,640.

Kosei Ichinose Eliminated in 7th Place (HK$261,500)

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Kosei Ichinose
Kosei Ichinose

The Final Table has gone from two Japanese players to none, with Kosei Ichinose hitting the rail and it was Hong Kong’s Danny Tang who was the man to send him there.

Down to hs last 575,000 in chips Ichinose moved these all-in from early position with {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and the action folded around to Tang in the big blind. With chips to spare and a pocket pair – {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} – Tang made a swift call and Ichinose’s fate was in the hands of the poker gods.

Unfortunately, they were not feeling generous and the {j-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts} runout saw the field reduced to the final six. Tang stacked up to 6.2 million while Ichinose headed for the cash desk to collect the equivalent of ~$33,476.

Jenyen Pushes Off Wei; Lee Doubles Through Co

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Two interesting back-to-back hands have recently played out on the 2017 Suncity Cup Macau Final Table. The first was decided pre-flop and was just the appetizer to the juicy action that followed.

It was Lim Chin Wei who was the aggressor, making it 200,000 to go from the button and Chien Jenyen quickly moved all-in from the small blind. This was enough to get big blind Je Ho Lee to get out of the way quickly but Wei now had a decision on his hands.

The Taiwanese player’s shove was for 2.34 million so represented close to 40 percent of Wei’s stack and the Malaysian eventually elected to wait for a better spot, leaving Jenyen free to rake in 320,000 in blinds and antes.

There were fireworks the very next hand with action folding around to Je Ho Lee in the small blind, who open-shoved for close to 1.8 million and was called extremely quickly by big blind Eugene Co and the hands were turned over.

Je Ho Lee: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Eugene Co: {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

Lee was the at-risk player but had the best hand and the {8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} runout saw the Korean double to a little over 3.6 million while Co took a hit and dropped down to around 1.75 million.
