A Gift for Chan
Now he has finally made Day 2, Hong Kongs Justin Chan is wasting no time building a big stack, though he has been aided in his task by Eric Xiao.
We missed the hand that gave Chan all his chips but he was kind enough to tell us the story of how he got them.
According to Chan it was Xiao who was the initial aggressor, opening the action from under-the-gun with a raise to 3,600 and Chan, sitting UTG+1, peeked down to see and re-raised to 10,500.
Xiao made the call and the flop was just the one Chan was after. Xiao checked and Chan got cute and checked it back and a non-diamond hit the turn. This saw Xiao check and Chan now fire for 16,000, which Xiao called.
The arrival of another non-diamond on the river paired the board and gave Chan a full house and, after Xiao checked Chan bombed it and bet 42,000. This saw Xiao hit the think tank hard for a good five minutes before a tablemate called the clock. With just seconds to spare Xiao check-raised all in for 80,000 in total and Chan could not call fast enough and Xiao could only throw his away and head for the rail while Chan stacked up to 310,000.
