The 2017 Suncity Cup Finale Macau Final Table is Here
It’s final table time at the 2017 Suncity Cup Finale Macau and it has taken a lot of poker, played out over five starting legs in four different countries to whittle the 928-strong field to the final eight.
All eight players are guaranteed a payday of at least HK$174,400 (~$22,325) but it is the HK$HK$1,925,000 first prize that all will have their eye on and the man best positioned to take that down is Lim Chin Wei, who is coming back with the chip lead and a stack of 5,500,000 – 91 big blinds.
The Malaysian player dominated a great deal of the Day 3 action, waking up with pocket Kings to bust Poland’s Karol Janiszewski at the start of the play to seize the chip lead before dropping down the pecking order.
However, a last-gasp burst of form saw Wei set up the unofficial ten-handed final, with pocket kings once again helping Wei in his climb to the top of the leaderboard, eliminating China’s Yuefeng Pan shortly before the end of play. Wei is in the hunt for his first major title and a fifth-place finish or higher will see the Malaysian cash for a career best.
It won’t be easy though as the last eight still has plenty of talent remaining. Danny Tang is sitting second in chips with a stack of 5,215,000 (86 big blinds) and with over US$757,061 in career tournament earnings victory here will see him reach and breach the $1 million mark and the Hong Kong player has the stack, and the skills to go the distance
Korea’s Je Ho Lee will also fancy his chances, and held the chip lead for a great deal of Day 3 before an ill-timed bluff against fellow final tablist Chien Jenyen when play was two tables out saw Lee drop back down into the pack. Lee is returning as the third largest stack with 2,430,000 in chips.
Another player who is no stranger to making the final table is Hong Kong Poker Player Association president Sparrow Cheung, who is making his 34th final table appearance of 2017. Cheung has cashed an impressive 62 times (63 including this event) in 2017 and currently holds the number one spot for most 2017 cashes worldwide.
While Kosei Ichinose may be nursing one of the shorter stacks, the Japanese poker professional cannot be counted out and already has two high roller titles under his belt, as well as over US$527,799 in career tournament earnings.
The final table’s other Japanese player, Sahashi Hideki, has also impressed this series. Hideki came in to the event with the overall chiplead with a stack of 374,200 after crushing the Suncity Cup Taipei leg and has remained one of the larger stacks all series. It’s not often that the man who holds the early chip lead goes the distance, but Hideki has showcased all the necessary skills to take this event down. In short, there is still some scintillating poker to be played and here’s how the final table is stacking up:
