The Poker Masters Event #5: $100,000 NLHE drew 36 players, which created a prize pool of $3.6 million. That means the remaining six players will get paid a minimum $180,000, while the winner will walk away with $1,512,000.

Leading the pack is Fedor Holz, who bagged up 1,471,000. Others sitting with healthy chip stacks are his fellow Germans Christian Christner (1,367,000) and Steffen "Goose" Sontheimer (1,354,000).

In regards to Sontheimer, he currently leads the Poker Masters with $1,221,000 in earnings after making three final tables this week, which included winning Event #2. If he finishes in second place, he’ll lock up The Poker Masters Purple Jacket? as the likes of Holz, who finished runner-up to him for $550,000, and Schillhabel, who has $306,000 in earnings wouldn’t be able to overtake him.

Rounding out the final table are Stefan Schillhabel (1,218,000), Justin Bonomo (1,050,000), and Seth Davies (740,000).

Day 2 saw 15 players return to action, with Byron Kaverman jumping into action at the start of Level 10. Early on, Dan Shak ran jacks into the kings of Christner to bust first, and he was followed out the door by Dan Smith, who shoved with a pair and flush draw and failed to get there against Sontheimer’s two pair.

Less than 10 minutes later, the extremely short-stacked Phil Hellmuth took his leave when his ace-six failed to hold against the queen-jack of Brian Rast. Kaverman was the next to go after losing with pocket queens to Holz’s aces, and then fan favorite Daniel Negreanu bowed out in 11th place when his ace-ten was bested by the king-queen of Christner.

Kid Poker had high hopes of capturing The Poker Masters Purple Jacket?, even betting more than 20 players $50,000 in a must-win bet. That meant had he won, he would’ve collected more than $1 million in side action, but now if one of those he bet against takes it down, he’ll have to pay them $50K. If either Davies or Bonomo win, it’ll be a wash as neither of them accepted the bet.

The elimination of Ben Tollerene in tenth place saw the remaining nine players combine down to a single table. After a couple hours of play there, Rast, who began Day 2 as the chip leader, busted when his pocket queens failed to hold against Bonomo’s Big Slick.

Jake Schindler exited after failing to win a flip, and Stephen Chidwick busted as bubble boy in seventh place when he got his short stack all in with jack-nine only to run it into the queen-jack of Sontheimer. Chidwick failed to get lucky and his elimination put an end to Day 2.

Day 3 of the Poker Masters Event #5: $100,000 NLHE will get underway at 2 p.m. local time. We’ll once again be bringing you all the action and eliminations straight from the tournament floor, so be sure to join us then.
