Day 3 of the 2023 $10,300 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) has run its course, and during it, the starting field of 38 players was whittled down to a final table of nine in just a little more than four hours. The final nine are all guaranteed a $94,330 payday out of the $6,000,000 prize pool at the start of Day 4 on October 4th, but all eyes will be on the seven-figure first prize of $1,047,257, as well as the coveted title of World Champion that comes with it.

Ivan "ILS007" Stokes was the player who came into Day 3 with a gargantuan chip lead, and he has managed to retain it throughout the day. Entering the final table with a stack of 31,727,368 chips, much of which is owed to a five-bet pot with aces versus ace-king, he will have nearly 160 big blinds at his disposal to try and push the rest of the players around. Leonard "Grozzorg" Maue, meanwhile, used Day 3 as an opportunity to move from the bottom parts of the leaderboard to second in chips, as he bagged 25,827,084 of them. The legendary Niklas "Lena900" Astedt is the only other player who amassed more than 20 million chips, taking a stack of 23,258,260 with him to the final table.

The rest of the deep-stacked final table is full of household names as well with the likes of "ShipitFTW911" (18,433496), Kelvin "Kelvin_FP:AR" Kerber (11,586,558), and Kayhan "KayhanMok" Mokri (7,558,355) having survived the onslaught of Day 3 as well. The shortest stack is Mario "livinmydream1" Mosboeck (6,656,731), who still has 33 big blinds to play with when Day 4 commences.

Day 3 Action

The day started with 38 contenders, but 14 rapid-fire eliminations saw the final three tables reached in less than an hour of play. Among those who failed to make the final 24 were Andy "BowieEffect" Wilson, Chris "ImDaNuts" Oliver, and Andras "probirs" Nemeth, the last of which ended up in 25th place.

Once there, it took almost an hour to lose the first player, Jonathan Proudflop Proudfoot, before a chain reaction saw ten more eliminations in the span of an hour. Among the carnage were PokerStars Sam "SamSquid" Grafton, Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro, and Daniel "Oxata" Dvoress. Finally, it was the player who goes by "I Can Dewey It" who could not do it and bubbled the final table in tenth place.

The final nine players will return for the last day of the WCOOP Main Event on October 4th, at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The blinds will resume with a few minutes left in Level 34: 100,000/200,000 with an ante of 25,000, after which as many 30-minute levels will be played as necessary to crown a champion.

PokerNews will of course be present from start to finish, providing key information, big hands, and all of the bust-outs. So be sure to check back to see who walks away with more than a million dollars and the title of World Champion of Online Poker.

Kelvin "Kelvin_FP:AR" Kerber raised it to 400,000 from under the gun and "I Can Dewey It" three-bet to 1,100,000 from the cutoff. Juan "xPastorcitox" Pastor then four-bet jammed for 8,392,364 from the big blind and "I Can Dewey It" made the call for less than that, 6,327,408.

"I Can Dewey It": A?K?
Juan "xPastorcitox" Pastor: A?Q?

"I Can Dewey It" was in good shape to secure a big double-up, but a detrimental flop of 7?5?Q? meant that Pastor took a big lead in the hand. The 3? turn and 2? river did nothing to change that fact and "I Can Dewey It" was the final elimination of Day 3, ending in 10th place.

Stay tuned for the final chip counts and a full recap of the day.

The action folded to "Thurpan" in the small blind and they open-jammed for 2,806,636. Juan "xPastorcitox" Pastor sat in the big blind and made the call with the covering stack.

"Thurpan": K?J?
Juan "xPastorcitox" Pastor: A?9?

"Thurpan" was drawing dead when Pastor made a flush on 2?3?8?Q?, and the 10? river was nothing but a goodbye.

With ten players remaining, the tournament is now hand-for-hand as one more elimination is needed to reach the final table of nine.

After doubling up "Thurpan" with tens against queens in the previous hand, "krokdil.by" three-bet all in from the small blind for 3,618,766 after Niklas "Lena900" Astedt opened to 400,000 from the cutoff. Astedt then quickly called and the cards were revealed.

Niklas "Lena900" Astedt: A?K?

An ambitious jam by "krokodil.by", but they would not be rewarded when failed to pair one of his hole cards on Q?3?Q?3?2?, sending them to the rail in 12th place.

Patrick "JaegsPL" Lauber open-raised to 360,000 from the hijack and the action folded to Mario "livinmydream1" Mosboeck who defended his big blind.

The flop came down 4?2?9? and Lauber continued for 283,500 after a check from Mosboeck. Mosboeck then called and checked on the 3? turn.

Lauber then jammed all in for 1,424,796 and Mosboeck snap called.

Patrick "JaegsPL" Lauber: A?A?
Mario "livinmydream1" Mosboeck: 2?2?

Lauber's aces had been cracked by Mosboeck's flopped set of deuces, but he could still hit an ace or a five to come out on top. However, the river came the Q? instead, and Lauber finished in 13th position.

The rest of the field is now guaranteed at least $76,287, the last pay jump before the day ends.

Darrell "FourSixFour" Goh Eliminated in 14th Place ($61,695)

Darrell "FourSixFour" Goh Eliminated in 14th Place ($61,695)

In the final hand of the previous level, Darrell "FourSixFour" Goh raised to 352,000 from under the gun and was faced with a three-bet to 1,200,000 from Ivan "ILS007" Stokes. The action folded back to Goh, who elected to four-bet to 3,040,000, after which Stokes five-bet jammed, covering the 14,000,000 stack that Goh started the hand with.

Goh made the call and a huge chip-lead pot of nearly 30 million had been created.

Darrell "FourSixFour" Goh: A?K?
Ivan "ILS007" Stokes: A?A?

It was the worst-case scenario for Goh. He failed to crack the aces of Stokes on 9?4?10?J?2? and the latter scooped the enormous pot, leaving him the far-and-away chip leader with 13 people remaining.

The short-stacked "mihic111" shoved all in from early position for 1,070,916 and received a call from "krokodil.by" in the hijack. The rest of the table folded and the pair showed down.

"mihic111": K?Q?
"krokodil.by": 9?9?

No face cards appeared on the A?4?6?3?5? runout and that spelled the end for "mihic111"s tournament run in 15th place as they failed to beat the pocket nines of "krokdil.by"

Patrick "JaegsPL" Lauber started off the action with a raise to 320,000 from the cutoff. Darrell "FourSixFour" Goh then called on the button before Daniel "Oxata" Dvoress three-bet jammed for 1,621,100 from the big blind. Lauber got out of the way but Goh made the call with the covering stack.

Daniel: "Oxata" Dvoress: A?10?
Darrell "FourSixFour" Goh: 4?4?

The flop did not leave much to the imagination when Goh flopped quads on 4?4?6?, leaving Dvoress drawing dead. Two meaningless cards completed the board with the Q? and 2? and Dvoress was the last player to leave with a payout of $49,894, with the 15 remaining players now having locked up $61,695

"krokodil.by" raised it up to 280,000 from the hijack and the action folded to "Jepser8" in the big blind, who opted to defend. The Q?2?K? flop graced the felt and "Jepser8" check-called a 280,000 bet from "krokodil.by". Another check-call followed on the ptd[ turn, this time for an amount of 700,000.

The river then rolled off the 5? and "Jepser8" checked once more. This time, "krokodil.by" went all in, covering the 1,221,056 stack of "Jepser8". The latter then made the call and "krokodil.by" revealed a turned straight with J?9?.

"Jepser8" could not beat that with his K?5? for rivered two pair and would be the last to leave the tournament before the field converged onto two final tables.

Niklas "Lena900" Astedt opened the action with a raise to 308,000 from under the gun. "PAX176" called from the cutoff and the two went heads up to a flop of 7?A?9?.

On this flop, Astedt made a continuation-bet of 564,750 and "PAX176" made the call. Astedt then upped the ante to 1,029,000 on the Q? turn and once again "Pax176" obliged with calling chips.

The river fell the A? and Astedt shoved all in, covering "PAX176"s stack of 2,000,387. "Pax176" quickly called and Astedt showed A?7? for a full house. "PAX176" held the last ace in the deck with A?10?, but their trips were not good enough to prevent their elimination in 18th place.

The field is now one elimination removed from reaching the final two tables.
