Lask and Gregg Among Leders After Day 1a of the Main Event
Day 1a of Event 11: $3,300 Main Event is complete after 13 hours of play. The first flight of three drew 114 entries and ended with 27 players remaining.
Dylan Lask was the player who emerged as chip leader at the end of the day with 495,500. Lask was involved in several big hands throughout the day, including on two occasions in which he was behind but got a fortuitous card to go in his favor. In one hand he hit a river queen with ace-queen to bust ace-king and another time he got an ace on the flop to crack pocket kings in a huge pre-flop all in.
Another player to end the day with a lot of chips was the well-known Tony Gregg who finished with 402,500 in chips. He registered late in the day and hit the ground running as he quickly eliminated multiple opponents at his table to run his stack up to four times the starting 50,000 stack in under a level of play. He maintained that hot start as the day went on to end 3rd in chips.
Rounding out the top few chip stacks to end the day were Benjamin Morgan (453,500), Jeffrey Chan (356,000), Ian OHara (322,500) and Kevin Kwak (280,000)
It was only a select few who made it to conclusion of play however as over 75% of the field was eliminated including notable WSOP Bracelet winners Ari Engel and Stephen Song were both felted. Engel never got much going on the day and was busted after a few levels of play while Song ran up his stack to a pretty large number at one point but had a few ill-timed bluffs late that stopped his momentum and eventually ended his day. Both players are likely to re-enter On Day 1bc and once again attempt to move on to Day 2.
The remaining 27 players will join those who survive from Flights B and C for Day 2 on Sunday August 4th for Day 2. PokerNews will provide all the coverage tomorrow to see who joins these players for Day 2.
