Manuel Herrera Wins Event #4: $500 5-Card PLO High For $25,562
It took a mere 90 minutes of play on Day 2 for Manuel Herrera to emerge victorious at Event #4: $500 5-Card PLO High. Herrera bested four other players on Day 2, including Anthony Luong heads-up to take home his first Potomac Winter Poker Open trophy and the $25,562 first-place prize.
Herrera, who hails from Colombia, said he is primarily a PLO cash game player, but dabbles in PLO tournaments when the opportunity arises. Today's win is Herrera's largest tournament score to date.
"I had confidence [throughout the tournament] even when I was short," Herrera said of his victory. "I was able to win a couple of big spots that helped me win the tournament."
Herrera said he doesn't play No-Limit Hold'em and will continue to play PLO cash games through the rest of the Potomac Winter Poker Open until the $1,200 5-Card PLO High Main Event on February 5, which he intends to play.

Day 2 began with Roy Kim enjoying an overwhelming chip lead over the rest of the table. However, Kim got off to a bad start after making a light call and losing against Luong early on.
Kim would end up busting in fourth place shortly after Bob Fitzgerald's exit after Kim got all-in against Luong's aces and failed to improve.
In a key hand of the tournament, Herrera caught Shouyi Gao bluffing on the river to send Gao out in third place.
Heads-up play began with Herrera enjoying a sizable chip lead over Luong. Herrera was able to chip Luong down over the course of several pots before Luong managed to double up after flopping a straight. It wasn't enough, however, as Herrera eliminated Luong after Luong called for his tournament life with a dominated flush draw and was unable to hit one of his limited outs.
