Monster Finish Propels Woodson to Day 1b Lead
Tim Woodson made the final table of RunGood Council Bluffs before ultimately finishing ninth for $3,590, but he has his sights set much bigger after a monster finish to Day 1b of the 2015 RunGood Cup Championship here in New Orleans.
Woodson bagged the chip lead with 359,000 to lead the 30 remaining players after 13 levels of play.
Two huge hands propelled Woodson far past his competitors, both occurring during Level 13 (1,500/3,000/500). First, Woodson faced off with fellow Council Bluffs final table participant Thaddeus Wolff on an board in a battle of the blinds. Acting first, Woodson bet 8,500 and Wolff called. On the river, Woodson decided on a small bet of just 8,500 more, and Wolff again called after some thought. Woodson showed him the for aces full to win the pot.
Just a bit later, Woodson dragged possibly the biggest pot of the tournament thus far when he opened for a raise and got three-bet by RunGood Pro Ben Reason to 21,500. Curtis Edens was in the big blind and pushed all in for approximately 40,000, and Woodson thought about a minute before putting Reason all in as well for around 100,000. Reason called with , and Edens had , but Woodson had them both destroyed with two aces. The board ran out clean for Woodson as nobody improved.
Others joining Woodson in bagging up included Jeremy Eyer (217,000), Cherie Baber (188,500), Jacob Naquin (165,500), RunGood Pro Ryan Tepen (102,000), David Chocheles (65,500), Matt Sztamburski (55,000), and RunGood Council Bluffs champ Brandon Fish (36,000).
Some players eliminated on Day 1b included former champs Troy Repp and Ross Bybee, as well as RunGoods Pro Duma Lowery, Michael Sanders, Dan Martin, and Jonathan Gaviao.
Those players eliminated still have one more chance to punch a ticket to Day 2, as one flight still remains. Day 1c kicks off Saturday at noon, and PokerNews will be on hand for more live reporting.
