After just over eight hours of play, the field of 72 was whittled down to a winner. It was Mississippi native JW Carter who steamrolled his way through the field to claim the massive first place price of $58,110.

I feel great, said the new main event champion with a big smile on his face, Ive only been playing tournaments for four years, but this feels great. Carter throughout the tournament was one of the biggest stacks, but it was the hand prior to the final table that catapulted him to the chip lead where his bottom set held against the bottom two of Phillip Burch that gave him a 3:1 lead over the field. Im retired now, he said when asked about being a professional so I wouldnt call myself a professional, but it is what I do a lot. He now takes home his best live cash, his first RGPS ring, and a seat to the RGPS Pro/Am.

Action of the day.

People sat down and began playing fast and furiously, with many stacks busting before the first hour was even up. Defending champion Max Le (69th-$962) fell early as did Tiffany Keathley (50th-$1,211), ensuring that a new champion would rise through the field.

Others whos runs felt shorter than they would have wished included Kyle Cartwright (57th-$1,087), Preston McEwen (48th-$1,366), Frank Covich (26th-$1,801), Kaleb Dunn (21th-$2,142), and Matt Higgins (16th-$3,073). The final hand prior to the final table, saw, the chip leader for the majority of the tournament, Burch get all of his chips in with bottom two against Carters bottom set. The pot worth 30% of the chips in play, went in the direction of Carter and Burch ended his run in 10th place for $5,836.

Final Table Action

Adam Cotant saw most of his chips lost in brutal fashion, when his aces were cracked by the ace-king of Michael Senedetka. He got in his last chips with seven-six suited against Matthew Lawrences nines, but finding no help and ending his run in ninth place for $5,836.

Following him out the door was Chris Hight who also lost against nines. He moved in his short stack with ace eight only to lose against Carters pocket nines. He earned $7,388 for his eighth place finish.

John Duke was the third player to be eliminated losing against nines, and the second to be eliminated by Carter. He moved his stack in the middle with ace-ten off-suit and lost a race against Carters pocket nines. He collected $9,468 for his seventh place run.

Some time passed before the next player exited, but it was Michael Senedekta who shoved over Carters open, only for Mike Cordell to move all in for more, folding out Carter. Cordell held ace-king, beating Senedektas king-three suited and Senedekta left the tournament in sixth, earning himself $12,293.

Matthew Lawrence (TN) finished in fifth place for $16,112. His chips got into the middle with ace-ten off-suit and lost a race against JW Carters pocket eights. A turned gut shot did not turn into anything by the river and he exited the tournament area.

Shortly after it was BJ McBrayer who was all in dominated with king-three off-suit against his JW Carters Ace-three suited. The flop came ace high, meaning only running kings or a wheel to chop would keep him alive. Neither came and McBrayer ended his run, collecting $21,358 for his fourth-place finish.

Mike Cordell
Mike Cordell jockeyed with Carter for the chip lead in a few key pots during the final table.

WSOP bracelet winner Mike Cordell jockeyed around with Carter for a bit, but ultimately lost a race against Carter at the end when he got his nine-ten suited in against the pocket fives of Carter. He ended his run in third place collecting $28,654 for his impressive run.

Just seconds into heads up, Wesley Jones moved in his stack with queen-jack off-suit, only to get called by ace-six off-suit. The board ran out with no help to the queen-jack and the RGPS tunica PLO champion ended his week with a second place finish in the main event for $38,867.
