Welcome to The RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint Council Bluffs Main Event

Derrick Plumage
Derrick Plumage

After a week of poker tournaments at The Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa, The RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint sees its largest event of the series begin tonight at 6 pm with Day 1a of The $700 Main Event. Boasting the biggest guarantee of the series with $100,000, the main event looks to draw a larger crowd than all the events preceding it, with all parties involved looking for a piece of RGPS history.?

Already having made history, but looking for the unheard of three-peat is defending champion Derrick Plumage. Plumage is one of a handful of players who have won multiple RGPS main events, but is the only one to win back to back at the same stop. Winning both iterations of the RGPS Council Bluffs main in 2022 with the $420 Main Event for $51,888 (beating defending champion David Hengen heads up) and the $600 Main Event later for $56,931. He will look to defend his title for a third time this series, likely to play all of the flights.?

His road will not be easy, as plenty of accomplished and dangerous players saw success this week and have their eyes on the ring in the tournament with the biggest purse. RGPS legends Duster Ellis, Taylor Howard, and Youtuber Ashley PokerFaceAsh Frank all won rings this week, with goals to collect another piece of jewelry to add to their illustrious resumes. Other players who have popped up over the week included RGPS Main Event Champions Mark Fink, David Hengen, as well as other players like Tim Garles, Nick Barksdale, Jacob Long, Daniel Hughes, and Caitlin Comeskey.

Players will start out with 30,000, with blinds beginning at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. The levels will last 30 minutes, with at 15-minute break occurring after every four levels. Registration will close at the beginning of level 9. After that, the breaks will occur after every three levels, with the flight ending once the field has been brought down to 12.5%. This is an unlimited re-entry format, so all players will be able to exercise their rights for re-entry in the first 8 levels of the tournament. Those who do not find bags in the first flight will be able to play the two flights occurring tomorrow.
