Johnson Jumps In

Level 8 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Charles Johnson
Charles Johnson

2016 Western New York Poker Challenge runner-up Charles Johnson has started to make a run here.

The big hand that saw him leap into contention started when he looked down at two sixes and raised it up to 4,000. One opponent made it 12,000 and Johnson called, seeing a miracle {6-}{10-}{10-} flop. Johnson check-called 12,000, then check-raised 25,000 when the turn bricked, clicking it back to 50,000.

His opponent pushed in with two jacks and Johnson snapped it off with his full house. The boat held when the river bricked as well.

Four Queens

Level 8 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Legendary Niagara Falls Poker Room reg Jason Nablo, who finished runner-up in the East Coast Poker Championship Main Event in Verona this past Spring, was off to hot start and looking for more when he picked up two queens moments ago.

Jeff Hall, thought he had another one on the hook when he looked down at the other two queens. Eventually they got 80 percent of their stacks in before revealing they had the same hand, and both went back to the drawing board.

Jersey Flops The Joint, Leads

Level 8 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Chris Meyers
Chris Meyers

Chris Meyers joined one opponent in calling a raise with the {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

They got in a bit of a raising war on the {5-}{8-}{9-} flop after Meyers made a straight, then saw a {7-} turn before getting it all in.

Meyers' opponent had a set of fives and bricked on the river to say goodbye, handing Meyers his stack and the chip lead.

In the meantime, Joe Ciffa sent Dan Wagner packing on that same table.

Dae Dae Gets There

Level 8 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

David Battaglia raised it up with the {k-Spades}{j-Spades} and got a couple of callers.

One seemed willing to get it in of a flop with two spades and Battaglia decided to go with it.

Turned out his opponent had two aces and despite missing his flush, Battaglia won the hand the hard way, runner-runner spiking two pair on the {j-} turn and {k-} river.

Boutelle Survives

Level 7 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

2015 Seneca Fall Poker Classic champ Kurtis Boutelle lost almost half his stack early, but just doubled it up to get back in the black courtesy of Joe Ciffa.

It was Boutelle's {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} versus Ciffa's {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} all in preflop for around 54,000 a piece. Jacks held without much of a sweat on a {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades} board.

Chris Meyers

Coming off a 2016 World Series of Poker where he made a deep run in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship and cashed in the Main Event, local rounder Chris Meyers is off to a hot start here as well.

He made aces up versus jacks up to drag a big pot, then value bet three sevens on the end in another hand, only to get raised. Meyers called and picked up another big haul when his opponent mucked.
