Day 2 Completed

Arthur Gates Wins the 2017 Seneca Summer Slam $125 Reentry

After the final four players chopped up the remaining prize money, the 2017 Seneca Niagara Falls Summer Slam $125 No-Limit Hold'em Reentry title and trophy went to 55-year-old retired Niagara Falls Medical Center employee Arthur Gates in his hometown of Niagara Falls, NY Thursday night.

The chip leader at the time the deal was made, consistent local rounder David Battaglia ($7,294) earned his second five-figure score of the series, and the most money. However, Gates still collected $4,679 for the win. Tom Babiarz ($6,756) and Steve Roberts ($4,703) were also part of the chop.

The event's six starting flights drew 456 entries this week and 58 survivors returned to play down to a champion Thursday. The top 45 finishers were paid and they reached the money rather quickly to start the day.

The lion's share of the massive $43,320 prizepool sat at the final table, and when they reached the final ten, Babiarz had built a big lead. Patience paid off for Battaglia, however, and as the first six players to bust from the final table took their leave, he built a slight lead over Babiarz.

Both Roberts and Gates led at one point or another, but by the time a decision to chop was made, they were the shorter stacks of the four.

In the end, they all chose not to gamble in the face of escalating blinds and these four players enjoyed a huge return on investment for their $125 buy in.

That ends the $125 Reentry event, however, PokerNews' coverage of the 2017 Seneca Niagara Falls Summer Slam continues with the first of two starting flights for the $600 Main Event beginning at 11 a.m. local time Friday. Tune in then.

It's A Chop!

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 4,000 ante

The four players left have chopped up the prize money and the tournament is over.

They did a blind flip for the title and trophy, and after some further negotiations, it will go to Arthur Gates.

Here are the adjusted payouts:

David Battaglia: $7,294
Tom Babiarz: $6,756
Steve Roberts: $4,703
Arthur Gates: $4,679

A short recap will follow.

Dan Ozimek Eliminated in 5th Place ($2,123)

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 4,000 ante
Dan Ozimek
Dan Ozimek

Tom Babiarz made it 100,000 and Dan Ozimek shoved the {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for his last 300,000.

Babiarz called with the {k-Clubs}{j-Spades} and got there on the {q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} board to bust Ozimek.

Dan Ozimek doubled through Steve Roberts flopping the world versus top two and turning a flush.

A hand later, Patrick McMahon shoved a king-high flop with {k-}{q-} and Ozimek snapped him off with big slick.

Top-top held to eliminate McMahon and with five remaining, Ozimek just went from short stack to millionaire.

Plus, David Battaglia had aces hold, then made a flush to double twice and leave the entire table about even.

Arthur Gates checked a {10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop and Paul McLean moved in for 260,000.

Gates snap-called with the {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. McLean had two eights and said goodbye after a {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} run out gave Gates a flush to go with his trips.

Six remain now heading into a 30-minute dinner break. Play will resume at approximately 7:40 p.m. local time.

Keith Gray pushed in for his last 76,000. David Battaglia came over the top all in for 170,000. The rest folded and it was Battaglia's {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} versus Gray's {j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

Gray hit a jack on the {j-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop, but Battaglia made a set. Gray said his goodbyes as the {k-Clubs} turn and {6-Diamonds} river were revealed.
