Welcome to Day 2 of the 2024 SPT Time Square Main Event August Edition

Imran Bojani
Imran Bojani

Upon completion of four starting days at the Time Square Casino in Pretoria, the second edition of the SunBet Poker Tour Time Square Main Event in the current year has seen a field of 391 entries emerge. Only 63 players advanced to Day 2 and will aim to secure a portion of the ZAR4,926,600 ($266,036) prize pool with the top 49 spots finishing in the money.

The ultimate goal of the penultimate tournament day would be reaching the nine-handed final table, but this may not be the case based on previous stops in one of the most successful live poker tours in South Africa. The event is hosted in cooperation between the Monster Jam Poker Tour and Sun International, the latter of which is one of the largest casino and entertainment brands in the country.

Leading the chase to the money bubble and beyond is Imran Bhojani with a stack of 666,000 and Giovanni Zanette follows in second place with 610,000. Another three players advanced with more than half a million in chips including Sean Bloom (578,000), Jedd Kossew (550,000) and NT (519,000).

The winner of the previous edition in March, Sugen Singh, is still in contention but has some work cut out with a stack of 151,000. SM, who finished as the runner-up but earned the biggest cash prize back then, has 340,000 at his disposal. Other fellow finalists still in the mix include David Ng (284,000), Gavin Sardini (168,000), and Jarred Solomon (170,000).

All 63 hopefuls will return to their seats at 12 p.m. local time at the Time Square Casino and the action picks up with 20 minutes left in level 14 at blinds of 3,000-5,000 with a big blind ante of 5,000. Once that level is completed, the level duration increases to 60 minutes each for the remainder of the tournament.

The action can not only be followed throughout the exclusive PokerNews live updates but also on the SunBet Poker Tour YouTube channel, which offers cards-up coverage and commentary on a security delay of 30 minutes until a winner has been crowned. Tune back in regularly to find out who will make the cut and has a shot at becoming the next SPT Main Event winner here in South Africa.
