Mike Lang, who finished second at Mid-States Poker Tour Canterbury Park in April, appears to be the chip leader at this juncture after taking another large pot when an opponent shoved for about 73,000 on a {3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop. Lang snapped it off with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and saw he was crushing his opponent's {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The {2-Spades} and {j-Clubs} finished out the hand.

Massey Doubles through Lawrence

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Ralph Massey
Ralph Massey

After a flop of {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{a-Hearts}, Ralph Massey checked out of the hijack and saw Jim Lawrence bet 10,000 on the button. Massey demonstratively dropped all of his chips in the middle and was quickly called.

Massey: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Lawrence: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Lawrence had flopped huge but was no good, and he was unable to improve on the {9-Spades} turn or {4-Hearts} river.

First Day Leaders Sinking; Vance Busts

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Joe Illingworth called bets of 10,000 and 20,000 on the turn and river from small blind Mike Lang on a board of {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, and Lang showed him {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} for top set.

Meanwhile, Day 1a leader David Gutfreund is also bleeding some chips early after he was in the cutoff and check-called 12,000 on the turn and 22,000 on the river from button Jonathan Olson. Olson showed {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} on a board of {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades}{q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and took the pot with his set.

At another table, former EPT winner Tim Vance busted out.

Choppy Waters for Illingworth

Joe Illingworth
Joe Illingworth

The morning hasn't been kind to Joe Illingworth thus far, who has dropped about half of his formerly-leading stack.

Illingworth just lost a flip with {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} to the {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} of Keith Lutz when Lutz flopped two pair.

"No waiting," Illingworth remarked.

Jeremy Dresch bet 23,000 from the small blind on a {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop and was called by Nick Jivkov, his lone opponent. On the {8-Hearts} turn, Dresch check-folded to 40,000 from Jivkov.

At other tables, Mark Hodge and Molly Mossey were among the early eliminations.

Welcome to Day 2 of Mid-States Poker Tour Meskwaki Casino

Jonathan Olson
Jonathan Olson

Good morning and welcome to the final day of Mid-States Poker Tour's third stop of the year here at Meskwaki Casino in Tama, Ia. This edition has proven to be the biggest, as the tour shattered its own state record of 389 running for a major tournament by drawing 426. Of those, 45 will walk away with at least some monetary compensation, meaning 40 of the 85 remaining players must still be whittled away before the money begins.

Some of the more notable names in contention include former MSPT champs Joe Illingworth and Jonathan Olson, the two top stacks returning, as well as David Gutfreund, Nick Jivkov, Nick Pupillo, Jeremy Dresch, Todd Breyfogle, Nik Stone, James Mackey, Ralph Massey, Yossi Azulay, "Minneapolis" Jim Meehan, Phil Mader, and Tim Vance.

The final day's play will begin at 10:30 a.m. and progress until the final table is determined, at which point we will see the tournament pause for a dinner break. After that, 60-minute levels begin for the final table, and a champion will be determined who will take home more than $100,000. Stay tuned as we bring you all of the live updates here on PokerNews.
