Tyler Bags Biggest Stack as 49 Advance from Day 1b
Another trip to its "home base" of Canterbury Park has resulted in another big turnout for the Mid-States Poker Tour. After 241 Day 1b runners, the two-flight total was pushed to 430. Ryan Tyler emerged as the top stack from Day 1b, and he also claimed the title of overall chip leader heading into Day 2, bagging 285,500.
When Day 1b came to a close, 49 players remained.
Tyler built up a monstrous stack of 240,000 by Level 12 (800/1,600/200). His heater continued with a big win during the final level of the night, when three players saw the flop for a raise. An early-position player bet 7,500 after Tyler checked, the third player in the pot folded, and then Tyler put the bettor all in for about 40,000. The player wasted little time calling with the for bottom two pair, but Tyler had that smashed with the for top set. From there, Tyler's set held up despite the turn for a surprise sweat.
Notable local player Adam Dahlin finished a distant second with 226,500.
Dahlin owes his hefty stack in large part to a big preflop all-in clash during Level 13 (1,000/2,000/300). There, he opened to 4,300 early and got one call before Mike Schneider made it 11,100 on the button. Vlad Revniaga cold four-bet to 31,200 out of the small blind, and Dahlin moved all in for 68,200. The caller quickly mucked, and Schneider followed suit after getting a rough count. Revniaga made the reluctant call with the , and Dahlin showed him two kings. Revniaga picked up a straight draw on the turn as the board ran out , but the river was safe for Dahlin.
A number of other notables advanced, including DJ Buckley (210,000), Josh Reichard (151,500), Ryan Hartmann (149,000), the aforementioned Schneider (137,000), Ken Pates (130,000), MSPT team pro Nick Pupillo (126,500), Big One for One Drop participant John Morgan (125,000), Lance Harris (101,000), Kou Vang (66,000), and Aaron Johnson (51,000).
Players failing to make the cut after 14 levels included Mike Ross, Mike Lang, John Hayes, Jake Balsiger, Rodger Johnson, defending champ Peixin Liu, Nick Jivkov, MSPT points leader Mark Hodge, and Jeremy Dresch.
Play resumes at 10:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, at which point the tournament will play down to a winner who will claim more than $106,000 in prize money. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews for continued live coverage from Canterbury Park.
