Third Day the Charm for Rich Dixon as Field Hits 399

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Rich Dixon kept building up big stacks in the first two flights of Mid-States Poker Tour Denver Poker Open $1,100 Main Event, but he kept stumbling late. Things got off to a similar start on Day 1c as he lost almost all of his stack in one of the first levels.

However, he turned things right around from there and this time shepherded his big stack to the finish. He bagged 312,000, good for second place, narrowly behind Ryan Remington's 314,000. Ben Greenberg rounded a closely packed top three with 308,000.

Brian Hou, the last MSPT Black Hawk champ, also made an appearance, and he made sure he didn't regret skipping the first couple of flights. Hou made it through with 175,000, aided by the nut flush against a set in a huge pot late. He got the money in on the turn and faded the board pairing to net a full double.

Other latecomers among the 32 to bag included Alex Winter and Adedapo Ajayi, both of whom ran deep in the WSOP Main Event this summer.

The 194 runners on Day 1c pushed the total field to 399, and organizers produced a preliminary, unofficial prize pool that earmarks $85,149 for the winner. A full payout breakdown will be available early on Day 2.

As both of the first two flights reached hard stops, Day 2 will kick off at the earliest stoppage point, 26 minutes remaining at 1,500/3,000/3,000. A total of 55 players come back on Sunday, and all the coverage will be right back here on PokerNews at 11 a.m. local time.
