Ewald Gives a Fist Pump

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Derek Mcmaster was in the cutoff and opened to 90,000. Gary Ewald three-bet all in for 114,000 on the button and Mcmaster called.

Gary Ewald: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Derek Mcmaster: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

Ewald needed to win his coin flip to stay alive and the flop {4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} gave him just what he needed.

"Yes!" he said, giving a fist pump to go with it. The turn {q-Clubs} and river {k-Spades} completed the runout and scored him the double, bringing him back up to a stack of 10 big blinds.

Ted Sennes Eliminated in 17th Place ($4,690)

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Ted Sennes
Ted Sennes

Ted Sennes put his last 62,000 in from early position and action folded around to Nicholas Welu, who called in the small blind. Aaron Johnson also called in the big blind to take any future action to a side pot.

Both players checked the flop {5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{a-Hearts} and the turn came {2-Spades}. Welu bet 50,000 and Johnson folded.

"No ace," said Sennes of his own hand, tabling {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

"I have a set of deuces," responded Welu as he showed {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}.

Sennes congratulated him on a nice hand and stood up to make his way from the table, realizing he was drawing dead as the river came {4-Clubs} to send him home in 17th place.

Meanwhile, Kevin Boyer and Jeremy Dresch were involved in a pot on the other table with at least 300,000 in the middle when Dresch check-folded to an all-in bet from Boyer for greater than the size of the pot, bringing Boyer up to 780,000 with Dresch now below the 500,000 mark for the first time since Day 1.

Gary Loeffler

Umut Ozturk opened to 65,000 in early position and action made its way around to Gary Loeffler, who threw in the last of his chips from the big blind. Ozturk made the call.

Gary Loeffler: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Umut Ozturk: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Loeffler went from having three outs to four as the flop came {7-Clubs}{k-Spades}{a-Hearts} as Ozturk's top pair, top kicker gave Loeffler a draw to Broadway. However, that was the closest he would get to catching up as the turn {4-Hearts} and river {4-Clubs} rolled off the deck to complete the runout, sending Loeffler home in 18th place.

Waalen Puts Boyer To the Test; Tkachuk Ousted

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 4,000 ante

Brandon Waalen was on the button and saw action fold to him. He opened to 55,000 and was three-bet to 145,000 by Kevin Boyer, who was in the big blind. Waalen called.

The flop dropped {3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Boyer made a continuation-bet of 125,000. Waalen called. The turn was {k-Clubs} and Boyer checked.

"All in," said Waalen, putting Boyer to a decision for his remaining 395,000. He thought for about a half-minute and then sent his cards to the deck.

As the hand was finishing, the short-stacked Vladyslav Tkachuk was eliminated from Table 3, bringing the field down to 18 and condensing the tournament down to two tables.

Dennis Stevermer
Dennis Stevermer

Phil Mader opened the action with a raise to 50,000 on the button and Dennis Stevermer defended his big blind. The two players saw a flop of {j-Spades}{4-Clubs}{a-Hearts} and Stevermer checked. Mader made a continuation-bet of 35,000 and Stevermer called.

Both players then checked through the turn {6-Clubs} and river {6-Hearts} to take the hand to showdown.

Stevermer showed {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for two pair, jacks and sixes and Mader sent his cards to the muck.
