Zamani Wins a Big One Without Showdown

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Martin Zamani
Martin Zamani

Satoshi Tanaka opened the action with a raise to 140,000 in the cutoff and received a call from Martin Zamani, who was on the button. Daniel Kusnerak three-bet to 725,000 in the small blind and both players called to take three-way action to the streets.

The flop dropped {8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and both Kusnerak and Tanaka checked. Zamani bet 600,000 and got a fold from Kusnerak before Tanaka made the call.

Action was then heads up to the turn {4-Spades} where Tanaka checked again. Zamani went all in, putting Tanaka to the test for his remaining chips. Tanaka thought for over a minute and then folded.

"We had it, boys!" said Zamani and tabled {a-Diamonds} without showing his other card.

At the same time, there was a pile of chips in the middle on the other table in a heads-up pot involving Zachary Grech in the hijack and Jorden Helstern, who was on the button. Grech bet 150,000 on a board of {5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Helstern shoved for about four-times that amount.

Grech wound up folding and Helstern took down the pot.

Admon Takes from Poces; Zamani Takes from Admon and Tanaka

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante

Salim Admon opened to 150,000 in the hijack at a five-handed table and received a call from David Poces in the cutoff. All remaining players folded and action went heads up to the flop {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Admon made a continuation-bet of 150,000 and Poces called.

The turn came {7-Clubs} and Admon continued, firing a second barrel for 400,000. Poces called again, bringing the river {6-Spades}. Admon bet once more, this time for 500,000, and Poces thought for about 30 seconds before tossing in chips to match Admon's bet.

Admon tabled {a-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for eights and sevens with an ace kicker, which the dealer promptly announced. Poces mucked.

Moments later, Admon and Martin Zamani were involved in a hand that saw close to 1 million in the pot on a board of {3-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Spades}. Admon checked to Zamani, who bet 630,000, and Admon folded after some thought. Zamani then took down a three-bet pot against Satoshi Tanaka as well to further increase his stack after returning from dinner.

Scott Vesilek Eliminated in 12th Place ($20,375)

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Scott Vesilek
Scott Vesilek

Scott Vesilek opened to 165,000 in middle position and received calls from both David Poces in the hijack and Martin Zamani, who was on the button. The three saw a flop of {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and Vesilek made a continuation-bet of 365,000. Poces shoved all in over the top, forcing out Zamani, and then Vesilek called all in for less.

Scott Vesilek: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
David Poces: {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

Vesilek imediately saw the bad news that his top pair, top kicker had run into a set. He was left with only running Broadway or full house outs to stay alive, and still had a chance after the turn {q-Hearts}. However, the river {5-Spades} left him dry and he was eliminated in 11th place as a result.

Benjamin Thomas Eliminated in 13th Place ($17,186)

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Benjamin Thomas
Benjamin Thomas

On the first hand back from the dinner break, Benjamin Thomas open-jammed for 525,000 on the button and Daniel Kusnerak called in the small blind.

Benjamin Thomas: {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
Daniel Kusnerak: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

Thomas was ahead going to the flop, but it came {9-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Clubs} to leave him in need of hitting a three outer to stay alive. No ace came on neither the turn {2-Diamonds} nor river {8-Spades} and his ace high was bested by Kusnerak's straight to result in him taking 13th place in the tournament.

Sukhdip Sangha Eliminated in 14th Place ($17,186)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Sukhdip Sangha
Sukhdip Sangha

Sukhdip Sangha raised to 115,000 in early position and saw Dale Eberle three-bet to 425,000 in middle position. Action folded back to Sangha, who thought for a bit before going all in for 1.35 million. Eberle called.

Sukhdip Sangha: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Dale Eberle: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

The two were in a classic coin-flip situation with Sangha behind and at risk for his tournament life. He found no help as the board ran out {2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and he was eliminated from the tournament on the very last hand before dinner break.

Zamani "Follows the Rules" and Shows

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Satoshi Tanaka pumped it up to 125,000 in middle position and received calls from both Martin Zamani in the hijack and Scott Vesilek, who defended his big blind. The three went to the flop {10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, where Vesilek checked. Tanaka made a continuation-bet of 165,000 and Zamani called, prompting a fold from Vesilek to continue heads up.

Both players checked the turn {2-Spades} and the river came {j-Spades}. Tanaka checked to Zamani again and he reached for chips, tossing out a bet of 400,000. Tanaka folded after about 15 seconds.

Zamani tabled {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} for flopped quads as the dealer shipped him the pot: "I had to follow the rules," he said.

Kareem Marshall Eliminated in 15th Place ($14,351)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Kareem Marshall
Kareem Marshall

Zachary Grech opened to 110,000 under the gun and action folded around to Kareem Marshall, who defended his big blind. The flop came {9-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Marshall open-jammed for 630,000. Grech went into the tank for a bit and eventually found a call.

Kareem Marshall: {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Zachary Grech: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Grech's queens were in front of Marshall's tens and remained there as the turn {6-Clubs} and river {a-Diamonds} completed the runout, giving Grech a small sweat to a backdoor gutshot straight draw in the process. Marshall's 15th-place finish was good for $14,351.
