Day 1a of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Canterbury Park $1,100 Main Event is officially in the books with 241 total entries tallied by night's end.

Almost a full 15 levels were played to their completion but a hard stop with 28 players saw the night end with 20:03 remaining in the final level.

The race for the chip lead came down to the final hands of the evening and at the end, it was Jacob Blumberg (529,000) who bagged the top stack after finishing the night with an exclamation mark, picking up a huge pot with aces against jacks.

The action hit a new gear in the final two levels of the evening, which saw the remaining players in the field ultimately drop from 41 down to 28. Chips flew across the room and stacks fluctuated accordingly.

Coming in a close second was Cody Espeseth who also went on a late-night heater and ended with 509,000. MSPT Hall of Famer Kou Vang was the first player to eclipse the 500k mark but lost a few hands to end the evening and ended third in chips with 499,000.

The top five is rounded out by two other players who finished the day north of 300,000: [Removed:309] (385,000), Hunter Cichy (379,000).

Others to punch their tickets to Day 2 were Terence Reid (367,000), Dennis Stevermer (227,000), Matt Alexander (192,000), Josh Reichard (126,000) and Chad Holloway (101,000).

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through the night. Among those to fire and fall in Thursdays flight were MSPT Hall of Famer's Blake Bohn, Rob Wazwaz, and Jason Seitz, along with MSPT Champion's Taylor Howard, and Jonathan Kim.

PokerNews will be on hand all week long bringing you all of the action, so be sure to come back for Friday's Day 1b at 3.00 p.m. local time.
