Martie Stays Alive

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Svetlana Martie advanced to Sunday's Day 2 from Thurseday's initial flight, bagging just 56,000 and exclaiming to the room that she was putting "dust" into a bag. She just found herself getting that "dust" in preflop in the big blind against Maury Solano, who was on the button, and she found herself in bad shape.

Svetlana Martie: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Maury Solano: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Luckily for Martie, the flop {5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} gave her top set, which proved to save her tournament life as the turn {10-Diamonds} and river {3-Hearts} both fell cleanly to complete the runout and secure her the double.

"Kind of a Good Flop" for Wanty

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Day 1 chip leader Haim Or Krief opened in the hijack and saw Cooper Wanty defend his big blind before check-calling a bet on {2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}.

Wanty checked again on the turn {k-Diamonds} and Or Krief fired a second barrel of 24,000, which Wanty called. The river fell {k-Spades} and Wanty checked a final time, with Or Krief opting to check behind to take the hand to showdown.

Wanty showed {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for the nuts and Or Krief mucked, turning up {q-Clubs} for the table to see.

"Kind of a good flop!" said tablemate Jason Welch amidst some reaction to the strength of Wanty's hand.

Meanwhile, a handful of eliminations have occurred in the meantime to bring the field down to 75, just three away from the money.

Sepiol Sends Griboski to the Rail

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Daniel Sepiol
Daniel Sepiol

Vincent Griboski open-jammed in the hijack for 72,000 and Daniel Sepiol re-jammed for a bit more on the button, forcing all remaining players out of the hand.

Vincent Griboski: {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Daniel Sepiol: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Sepiol's queens held through a runout of {3-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{10-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Griboski became the first elimination of the day as a result. Just a moment later, Jeff Heiberg was also eliminated from the same table, with the pair of eliminations bringing the field down to 81 and resulting in the first table of the day breaking. Nine full tables remain, and nine more eliminations are needed to reach the money.

Welcome To Day 2 of the MSPT Black Hawk $1,110 Main Event

MSPT Black Hawk Trophy
MSPT Black Hawk Trophy

The next champion on the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) will be determined Sunday for Day 2 of the $1,110 Main Event. Eighty-three players are set to return to Bally's Black Hawk with their eyes set on the top prize of $129,451 after three starting flights produced 651 entries and a total prize pool of $631,470.

Due to Friday's Day 1b flight reaching 12% of the field to enact a hard stop at the earliest time of the three flights, Day 2 will resume with 33:30 remaining in Level 15 (3,000/5,000/5,000). Saturday's Day 1c chip leader Haim Or Krief (781,000) enters the day with the overall chip lead after bagging one of the largest end-of-day stacks in MSPT history. The other two Day 1 chip leaders in Michael Wyporowyich (556,000) and Michael Kinzer (482,000) will also begin Sunday with top-three stacks.

A stacked field sits behind the trio, with players such as Dapo Ajayi (475,000), Craig Varnell (343,000), Kyna England (178,000), Krzysztof Stybaniewicz (136,000), and Kane Lai (125,000) among the 83 returning for Day 2.

Play begins at 11 a.m. local time. Like Day 1, all levels will last 40 minutes with 10-minute breaks after every three levels of play and a dinner break once the final table has been reached. Only top 72 finishers will make it into the money, meaning one shy of a dozen will walk away empty-handed. Lastly, the tournament structure will transition from big-blind ante to traditional ante once 27 players remain and the three-table redraw has occurred.

Who will be the MSPT Black Hawk $1,110 Main Event Champion when all is said and done? PokerNews will be here to bring you the answer to that question, so be sure to keep it here.
