David Ouellette Leads 27 Players from Day 1a of the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event
David Ouellette leads the field of 27 players after an action packed day as the 2021 Mid States Poker Tour (MSPT) returned to Las Vegas on Saturday September 4th for Day 1a of the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event. The event attracted 238 entries in the Venetian Poker Room for a three day event with a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000.
Ouellette claimed the chip lead after back-to-back hands late in Day 1a, the second of which saw him eliminate Jeff Chandler with a flopped full house. Ouellette finished fifth in Event #6 at the Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza in April 2021 for $31,317 and will return on Monday to see if he can improve on his highest score. Returning to Day 2 with Ouellette will be his popular dog, “Jack”, and his trademark calm tournament demeanor.
Previous MSPT main event winner Harlen Miller of Bismarck, North Dakota made a strong run before bowing out late in the day. WSOP gold bracelet winner Kathy Liebert was steady all day before going on a run in the late levels to claim a spot near the top of the leaderboard. Jordan Cristos also had a consistent day, ending near the middle of the pack with a great chance to spin it up on Day 2.
Among the other players returning for Day 2 are Tony Wasaya, Justin Scott, Katrina Weaver, and Artem Zverkhovskyy.
Day 1b begins at 11:10 a.m. local time on Sunday September 5 and it is the second of two starting days. Day 2 will combine the surviving players from Day 1a and 1b into a single field on Monday and play will continue until there is a winner.
Stay tuned to PokerNews for another full day of action as we return on Sunday September 5 for Day 1b of the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event at 11:10 a.m.
