Wiegmann Bags Monster Stack on Day 1b of MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event
It was a much larger turnout for Day 1b of the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event and thus there were much larger stacks by the day's end. A total of 340 entries were recorded for the second starting flight and just 38 players advanced to Day 2 tomorrow.
It was a late surge from Cody Wiegmann in the latter portion of the day that saw him finish on the top of the leaderboard with a whopping 800,000 chips, exactly 32 starting stacks. Wiegmann's late-night push came on the heels of cracking Scott Sisler's pocket kings when Wiegmann flopped a set of tens. Although it put a large dent in Sisler's stack, he managed to recover nicely and bagged up the second largest stack with 647,000 chips.
Both players will be looking to record their second six-figure score tomorrow as the winner will be taking home just over $100,000 for their efforts. There will be a total of $500,000 handed out on Day 2 amongst the 53 remaining players. Each player has already locked up $2,513 but will have their sights set on that first-place prize.
Some other notables making it through to Day 2 include David Pham (513,000), Peter Hengsakul (465,000), Bryan Piccioli (304,000), and Jared Jaffee (224,000). It wasn't all roses for everyone today as many familiar faces fell by the wayside throughout the day. PokerNews' own Nicholas Baltz and Chad Holloway were unable to spin up a stack and were joined on the sideline by the likes of Katie Lindsay, James Romero, Asher Conniff, Angela Jordison, Will Givens, and Tim Reilly.
The action is scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. local time tomorrow with 29 minutes remaining in level 15. The blinds will resume at 3,000/5,000 with a 5,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue to be 40 minutes in length and they will play down to a winner by tomorrow night. There will still be a 15-minute break after every three levels with no dinner break scheduled.
