Steffen Sontheimer Eliminated in 6th Place (HK$2,446,000)

Level 21 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante
Steffen Sontheimer
Steffen Sontheimer

While Steffen Sontheimer may have scalped the last player, the Germans fortune has waned over the last 20 minutes and he lost all of his newly won chips to fellow countryman Manig Loeser after the two battled it out in the blinds and Loeser made four to a flush with {6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} when the board ran out {4-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

Sontheimer had been playing bottom pair aggressively but Loeser got there on the river to whittle Songheimer down to 1-million in chips.

Richard Yong then opened the action with a raise to 210,000 from early position and Sontheimer peeked down at his cards and decided to take a stand, moving all-in for just under 1-million. Yong called immediately and the cards were turned over.

Steffen Sontheimer: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Richard Yong: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Sontheimer was not in good shape and stayed behind the whole way when the board ran out {k-Spades}{7-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} to hit the rail in sixth place, taking home the equivalent of $313,168.

Antonios Paschalidis Eliminated in 7th (HK$1,957,000)

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Antonios Paschalidis - Steffen Sontheimer
Antonios Paschalidis - Steffen Sontheimer

Antonius Paschalidis moved all-in and stole the blinds and antes to survive one more orbit but the writing was on the wall and it was getting to boom or bust time.

Unfortunately for the Greek player it was bust and the next orbit John Juanda raised to 180,000 from middle position and down to his last 550,000 Paschalidis moved all-in from the small blind.

Steffen Sontheimer peeked down at his cards in the big blind and re-shoved for 1.5 million and Juanda quickly folded.

Antonios Paschalidis: {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Steffen Sontheimer: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Paschalidis got to his feet as his fate was decided by the poker gods with the flop falling {9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{2-Spades} to give the Greek player a pair of nines and an additional two outs. However, the {a-Clubs} turn was not one of them and while there was some paint on the river it was the {q-Diamonds} and Paschalidis hit the rail in 7th taking home $250,554.

Yong Getting Active, Paschalidis Getting Short

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Richard Yong has been getting frisky and has run his stack up to around 1.75 million, stealing some blinds and antes from Peter Chan and John Juanda. Yong moved all-in for 1.4 million and Juanda open-folded {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

Yong flashed him {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} saying “You can call” and Juanda jokingly asked if he could have his cards back.

Peter Chan raised the button the next hand, making it 170,000 to go and Yong made the call from the big blind. That was it for the betting in the hand though with both players checking the {k-Spades}{9-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} board all the way through to the river.

Yong turned over {8-Spades}{6-Spades} and Chan mucked leaving Yong to pad out his stack a little more.

The next flop was two hands later with Chan Wai Leong limping the small blind and Antonios Paschalidis checking his option in the big blind.

The action on the {5-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop went check, check and Leong min-bet the {q-Clubs} turn and while Paschalidis looked a little tempted he eventually gave it up.

The Greek player is getting pretty short and is down to his last 500,000 so will have to make a move soon though.

Shoves But No Customers

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Play is underway again in the Triton Super High Roller Main Event and there have been two all-ins, but neither of the shoves were called.

Richard Yong was the first man to pull the trigger on the first orbit back, moving all in for 1.2 million from the big blind over the top of a Manig Loeser cutoff raise with the German player folding immediately.

Peter Chan moved all-in for 1.4 million from middle position on the second orbit and took down the blinds and antes when the rest of the table folded.

Loeser Still Leads Coming into First Break

Level 19 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

While Manig Loeser has less chips than he started play with the German player still currently holds the chip lead and has just won two back-to-back hands to climb back up to close to what he started the day with.

Loeser made it 130,000 to go from the cutoff in the first hand, picking up two customers in the form of Peter Chan (button) and Richard Yong (big blind).

Yong checked the {j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop over to Loeser, who c-bet 90,000 and both Chan and Yong quickly folded. Loeser raised it up again the next hand and took down the blinds and antes.

Peter Chan won himself a small pot, making it 130,000 from the hi-jack with Antonios Paschalidis choosing to defend from the big blind. The Greek player checked the {3-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop over to Chan, who led out for 100,000 and that was enough to take down the hand.

There was an orbit of blind and ante stealing before the next flop was dealt with Loeser raising from the button and Chan making the call from the small blind.

However, that was it for the betting in the hand with both players checking all the way to the river with the community cards running out {8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}.

Chan turned over {k-Spades}{j-Spades} but this was not enough to beat Manig Loeser’s {a-Clubs}{9-Spades} and the German player padded out his stack a little more before the break.

Strange Turn of Events

Level 19 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

There has been some blind and ante swapping with Richard Yong dropping a few chips as well as Manig Loeser, though the latter still holds the lead. Pokers being a zero sum game means the beneficiaries of these losses are Steffen Sontheimer and Chan Wai Leong.

An interesting hand played out between Leong and Antonius Paschalidis, but only because of the quirk of fate that occurred on the turn rather than for the result.

It all started with a limp, with Leong completing the small blind and Paschalidis checking his option in the big blind bringing the action two-way to a flop of {8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{q-Spades}.

Leong bet the minimum and Paschalidis min-raised and the dealer accidently dealt the {10-Diamonds} before Leong had made the call. This meant it was shuffled back into the deck, Leong put in the call and the dealer burned and turned… the {10-Hearts} to chuckles from the rest of the table. Leong bombed for a full pot bet and Paschalidis folded immediately.

Mikita Badziakouski Eliminated in 8th (HK$1,712,000)

Level 19 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Mikita Badziakouski
Mikita Badziakouski

Level 19 was just minutes old before the final table had its first casualty with Mikita Badziakouski the man to fall first, with Germany’s Manig Loeser sending the Belarusian player to the rail.

Badziakouski had dropped down to just over 700,000 in chips and moved all-in from the button with Loeser re-raising all-in to isolate from the small blind and the cards were turned over.

Mikita Badziakouski: {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Manig Loeser: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The Belarusian was in bad shape and it did not get any better on the {6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop. Badziakouski kept calling for the {8-Clubs}, especially when the {10-Diamonds} hit the turn to give him an open-ended straight draw but the {q-Spades} river was of no help and Badziakouski headed for the exit, collecting the equivalent of $219,256 for his deep run while Loeser recouped his earlier loss against Paschalidis.
