HK$500,000 Short Deck Ante-Only Starts Today!
While the smaller, HK$100,000 Short Deck Ante-Only event is coming to its close today, another, bigger event will be starting in its wake, the HK$500,000 Short Deck Ante-Only event. This event is similar in nature to its smaller counterpart but features longer levels of 45-minutes. Once again, players will start with stacks of 100,000 and two reload bullets worth 100,000 each as well. These bullets can be exchanged at any time for more chips, so players could technically start with 300,000 if they so choose.
The last Triton series in Montenegro did not host an event of this buy-in, so it's likely we'll see some new faces and names at a different price point, and a new champion will be crowned for this side event.
Once again as a refresher for the rules of short deck, all twos, threes, fours, and fives are removed from the deck, and thus, hand rankings are changed to reflect the respective strength of hands. For this events, flushes now play higher than full houses as there is only eight cards to every suit. Other than that, six-plus hold’em is played similarly to regular hold’em with two hole cards, five community cards, and four streets of betting — preflop, flop, turn, and river. Also to note, aces can still play for a low straight, replacing the five, making ace-six-seven-eight-nine a straight as well.
The plan is to play a total of 12 levels on day one of this event with antes beginning at 1,000 with a button ante of 2,000. Players will have a break after every three levels and a 15-minute break after level six. Registration for the event will be open until level 10, which will be roughly around 11:20 p.m. local time. This event is scheduled for just two days of play and Wednesday marks the only starting day.
Action is set to begin for this event at 4 p.m. and PokerNews will be here with coverage from start to finish.
