Benjamin Spragg Eliminated in 6th Place (€30,210)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Benjamin Spragg - 6th Place
Benjamin Spragg - 6th Place

"All my monies," Benjamin Spragg said before committing his last 370,000 or so in the last hand of Level 26. One by one his opponents folded until action reached Daragh Davey, who snap-called from the big blind.

Spragg: {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Davey: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Spragg's supporters, of which there were quite a few, were up on their feet and calling for a six. The {j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop didn't provide one, but it did inspire Spragg to request a ten and queen to chop. Right on cue the dealer burned and turned the {10-Hearts}. The rail buzzed with excitement not only because their man got one of his cards, but also because he picked up the nut-flush draw.

There were a lot of cards that could help the man from Stroud in Gloucestershire, but the {8-Diamonds} was not one of them. Spragg's rail moaned with disappointment as their man shook hands with the remaining players and then exited in sixth place.

Gold Takes Another Monster Pot

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Benjamin Spragg raised to 20,000 and was called by Alan Gold in the cut-off and Damian Porebski in the big blind. The three player saw a flop of {10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Porebski checked, Spragg checked, and Gold seized the initiative with a bet of 155,000. Porebski got out of the way but Spragg made the call.

The dealer burned a card and put out the {5-Diamonds} on the turn. Once more Spragg checked. Gold, relentless so far at this final table, bet 365,000. Spragg made the call. The final card was {3-Hearts}. Spragg checked for the final time. Gold, undeterred bet 950,000.

Before the dealer had a chance to count the bet down Spragg announce call. When Gold turned over his {5-Spades}{4-Spades} for the turned two pair Spragg sighed in dismay flicking his {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} face up.

“I wasn’t folding.” Spragg said as the huge pot was slid over to Gold.

Spragg Shoves and Febers Calls

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Benjamin Spragg opened for 100,000 from the cutoff and received a call from Paul Febers on the button. The blinds folded and the flop came down {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Spragg bet 150,000, Febers called and the dealer burned and turned the {9-Clubs}.

Spragg kept the pressure on with a bet of 325,000, but Febers was right there with him. When the {J-Spades} completed the board on the river, Spragg moved all in for 1.02 million and Febers thought for a few moments before making the call. Spragg rolled over the {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a straight, and Febers tabled the {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} for the same straight. Chop it up.

Jonathan Slater Eliminated in 8th Place (€16,500)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Jonathan Slater
Jonathan Slater

Jonathan Slater, a 25-year-old professional poker player from Chidwell, Essex, just busted the final table in a brutal set-over-set hand.

It began when Slater opened for 100,000 from the hijack only to have Dimitri Pembroke three-bet him to 215,000 from the cutoff. The button and both blinds folded, and Slater called to see a flop of {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Slater checked, Pembroke bet 235,000 and Slater woke up with a check-raise to 500,000, leaving himself about 900,000 back. Pembroke announced that he was all in and Slater couldn't get his chips in fast enough.

The entire rail were on their feet and gasped when the cards were flipped. Slater had flopped a set with the {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, but it was no good as Pembroke had top set with the {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

"I'd really like a seven please," Slater said as he stood from his chair. The dealer did not oblige and instead put out the {6-Spades} on the turn. "So close," Slater said. Indeed it was, but not close enough. Neither was the {5-Clubs} river.

Slater shook hands with the remaining players and then made his way to the payout desk in eighth place.

Porebski Doubles Through Spragg

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Action folded around to a short-stacked Damian Porebski in the small blind and he shoved all in for 610,000, which Benjamin Spragg snap-called from the big blind.

Porebski: {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Spragg: {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Porebski got it in good with the ace high and ended up winning the hand after the board ran out {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to give him a pair of threes. Spragg was left with around 735,000 after the hand.

Gold Takes a Big From Davey

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Alan Gold, on the button, tried to make a raise but failed to put in enough chips so it was ruled a call. Daragh Davey then raised from the small blind to 165,000. Jonathan Slater folded the big blind and when it got back to Gold he called the young Irishman’s raise and we saw the first flop of the day.

{a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Spades}Davey led for 155,000 and Gold raised him to 380,000. Davey called. The turn was {j-Hearts}and this time Davey checked. Gold cut out a stack of purples and bet 510,000 and Davey thought for a moment before making the call.

The river was the {8-Diamonds}. Again Davey checked and Gold reached for two towers of purple chips, finally betting 1,175,000. Davey riffled his chips and shook his head. Gold sat back in his chair, arms crossed, implacable. A few minutes ticked by as Davey contemplated his options. It was a huge decision. The table and the crowd were silent as we awaited the outcome. At last he made up his mind and slid his cards to the dealer.

In seat one Christy Morkan let out a low whistle. “He came to play.” Said Morkan of Gold.
