Day 1 Completed

Blais of Glory; William Blais Crushes Crazy Pineapple Bounty

Event #7 Champion - William Blais
Event #7 Champion - William Blais

Event #7 of the World Cup of Cards kicked off at 7 p.m. inside Playground Poker Club Sunday evening. The $220 NL Crazy Pineapple Bounty attracted a field of 130 players, pushing the $15,000 guarantee to almost $19,000. Igniting his competition for 16 bounties, William Blais dominated en route to victory and a top prize of $4,500.

Crazy Pineapple plays like no-limit holdem with one slight variation. Players are dealt three cards but must discard one of them following the flop. From each buy-in, $150 went to the prize pool and $50 was awarded for each elimination. The 16 bounties Blais collected throughout the event, netted him a bonus prize of $800.

On the first hand of heads-up play, Blais opponent Martin Welch moved all-in and Blais snap-called. The flop came {6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and both released a card. Blais tabled {a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}, ahead of Welchs {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, needing to sweat just two cards to win it all. The turn was the {6-Hearts} changing nothing. The dealer laid the {8-Hearts} on the river, sealing Blais' victory.

Blais steamrolled the final table, busting the final four players. Once five-handed, Blais disposed of Daniel Pepin when his {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} sucked out on Pepins {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} on a {3-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{q-Diamonds} board.

Maurice Simard was the next to go, moving all-in on a {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop and being called by Blais {a-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Simard had outs holding {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. The {7-Hearts} on the turn gave Simard a bunch more equity but the {8-Spades} hit on the river, spelling the end of his tournament.

Mehdi M fell in third to Blais on a {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop. Both mucked a card and their hands were turned over. Mehdi M tabled {j-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} but ran straight into Blais {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and could not improve through the turn or river.

Here is how the final table payouts broke down:
